Can I ask what is probably a daft question? I'm getting a kindle for Christmas, purchased from Amazon but not opening it till Christmas Day.

Yep, buy away! As soon as you connect your kindle to wifi, it will magically download all the books you've already bought!
One tip though - do not buy them all on a card as otherwise your bank will probably block your card - they do this all the time with ebook purchases - the pattern of lots of very small payments seems to upset them. The method most people adopt when they've a kindle is to buy an Amazon voucher and credit it to your account so that the purchases come off the voucher.

Loved all his other books but don't have a kindle.

Don't know if it depends on your card issuer. I use Amazon all the time for kindle and non-kindle stuff and my card gets blocked if I start using it to buy more than 1 ebook. The Kindle forum also has lots of people on it who complain of the same problem - no idea from that whether some banks are more sensitive to small purchases than others though.

It's gone back up to £6.83 now.

Missed it but found others including QI fact book so thank you OP for the tip. Is there a specific term you can use to search for 20p books? Or i s it a case of looking through the new releases. I pre ordered Ken Folletts latest book for £10 and was very pissed off to get it for the kindle for 20p a few wks later! Teach me to wait!
