Dress Your Children in Corduroy and Denim, by David Sedaris.

May Contain Nuts by John O'Farrell

Turquoise · 08/04/2006 21:16

Janet Evanovich - One for the Money, then the rest of the series. I think Three to Get Deadly and High Five are the funniest, but good, girly, funny crime/thrillers - but more comedy/character than whodunnit (and v sexy male characters).

Jennifer Crusie is one of my favourite "cheer me up" authors, particularly "Welcome to Temptation" and "Manhunting". When I was younger Tom Sharpe use to make me laugh a lot, but I find it a bit childish now, my favourites of his were "Wilt" and "The Throwback". I also laughed a lot reading "Notes from a Small Island" by Bill Bryson.

Anything by Tim Moore (erudite travel books.)
God he is funny.

bramblina · 08/04/2006 21:24

Anything by Marian Keyes, her first Lucy Sullivan is getting married had me rofl.

yeamam · 08/04/2006 21:25

Jennifer Weiner "Goodnight Nobody". She also wrote "In her shoes" which was made into a movie! I have just finished Goodnight Nobody and it is a funny/thriller type think. Kinda desperate housewives meets sex in the city.. Grin

Another vote for May Contain Nuts.

Ooh yes - definitely not the non-Stephanie Plum ones, they're awful. Can't recommend the Plum series highly enough though.
I also like 'Hens Dancing' and 'Summertime' by Rafaella Barker (particularly if you have a small daughter)and 'Don't You want me' by India Knight had me laughing and snorting so much on a packed train that people moved away.

spub · 10/04/2006 12:59

Another vote for Laura Marney - No wonder I take a drink and/or Nobody loves a ginger baby!

mandylifeboats · 10/04/2006 14:30

Swallowing Grandma by Kate Long

skerriesmum · 10/04/2006 15:06

Hypocrite in a Pouffy White Dress by Susan Gilman(I think?). Hilarious!
