Just WHEN do you read?

Just wondered.

I have a stack of books to get through.

I work p/t but as it's my own business I feel dead guilty taking time out for reading during the day (I work from home.) I'm in a creative field so even if I'm not working on an order I am marketing and trying to get one!

In the evening I am struggling with the light as I need to change my glasses again- they aren't strong enough for dim light and small print- and DH always has the TV on and he's not a reader.

I don't want to go into another room so the books just aren't getting read.

Ideas please!

Back lit E reader might help.

I read a lot more now I have my kindle. In my bag so if DS falls asleep / I am on a bus / get somewhere early I always have a book handy.

I often read on my lunch break too. Not so much in the evenings any more.

Only in bed! Can't concentrate elsewhere. Early bed or books not read!

I have a kindle. I am not that convinced with it. I feel a bit " robbed" that I don't have a book to put on my shelf when finished ! I am not sure it was a good purchase- but I will keep one book on it now and then.

Kindle paper light. Can read anywhere without needed other light sources. Can you give yourself 30-45 mins lunch break at home where you can eat and read if you like?

And in bed, or whilst dh watches tv, just tell him to turn it down a bit!

Now that I've discovered MN, about a tenth the amount that I used to!

In bed.

I rarely do. Sometimes I go to bed and read. About once a month I'll have a very long bath and read there.

I am ridiculously busy though.

I read in bed every night for at least an hour -if my eyes last that long. I'm a single parent so I don't have to worry about anyone wanting to watch the tv or anything like that. I find this helps me to wind down each evening.

Bath and bed.

In the evening while dh watches shite tv.

During dc's swimming lessons.

On train.

On toilet.

In bed at night.

In bed on weekend mornings.

During day on weekends when I get a chance to sit down.

Have become a voracious reader again since getting a kindle and an iPad.

I hate reading in bed. I can't get comfy and reading is stimulating for me- not a wind-down.

I can spend less time on MN though and read instead :)

Try to keep an hour just before sleep when DD is in bed. Usually means I read until the wee hours as I get too involved, but my choices are better by far than when I was unable to read anything but books on childbearing, which was the case when I was pg!

I have a bath most nights (indulgent I know! ) and my Kindle always comes in with me - it is the best way to de-stress I know!

DH didn't used to be a reader but he's seen me reading and has started now, so what we do is read in the evenings together and then watch tv from about 9.30 ish.

I also read when the children are at school, whilst they are having their swimming lessons, whilst I wait for them to come out of school etc. Five/ten minutes here and there all add up during the day.

I read everyday. On the sofa, in bed, waiting for the kettle to boil, basically anytime I have free time.

Also, when I leave the house I always take a book with me. I read waiting for people, in the cafe, on the bus, train, at weight watchers, and in the cinema (during adverts and trailers).

I did once walk down the street reading, but walked into a lamppost and hit my head haven't made that mistake again

I used to walk and read all the time. I never walked into a lamppost or got hit by a car. I always said I would stop if eiher of those things happened!

I read most at the point of the day when dinner is on and DS is in bed...about now really (except I'm on here this evening!).

Take advantage of odd times. I had a junior doctor friend who said, in spite of his completely crazy work schedule, was reading the most in his life because he decided to read an hour before bed, whatever the time was. I was quite inspired by that.

Even if you work from home, you need a proper break. I don't even work but I always set aside an hour for lunch and will often read if DH is out.

Very late at night, mostly, and currently in the daytime as well. A mix of Kindle and print.

I have spent a lot of this term having to sit around at DS2's nursery settling him in, and I got through a lot of reading during that process. I wasn't meant to be running around the nursery after him, and they generally told other parents and carers to bring something to read and to try and sit back from their children a bit.

I often read and have the TV on as well.

I am going to be working from home more soon and that will probably impact on my reading.

I understand you don't want to go into another room, but I think your DH should compromise on letting you turn up the lighting a bit, or perhaps you could get a reading lamp and put it next to you to improve the lighting.

Have you experimented with print sizes on your Kindle books.

I go to bed early to read; DH and I also have nights where we just read rather than watch TV/DVDs which is wonderfully bonding - usually on weekends or holidays. Otherwise, I read whilst waiting for DD at her various after-school activities or on weekends when she's happily playing on her own (she's 4).

Very difficult now I commute to work on a train and can rarely get a seat. The Kindle is great for one-handed reading but half of the time I still prefer reading books the old fashioned way. I do miss my old bus journeys.

I have the Kindle case with the light so that's good for reading in bed at night.

I much prefer train journeys for reading - it's the best part of the journey for me as long as I'm in a Quiet Coach.

OP. I could have written that post.

I keep my kiindle in my bag, so waiting at the dr's, or other appointments.

In the bath
On the toilet
In bed
In the summer I take my morning coffee into the garden with my kindle

I read my kindle before I go to sleep - usually for about an hour.

usually when dd watching cartoons
before bed if dh watching his crap on tv
never tried reading my kindle in the bath as am too afraid to drop it as i was always doing that with real books!!
waiting for appointments if alone (dd will not let me read if she s with me!) too many questions need answering! lol
