Try Lisa Gardener, I prefer her to Karin Slaughter.

I'm a big fan of Lin Anderson, not sure if her earlier stuff has been made available for Kindle yet but thoroughly recommend you track down a copy of Driftnet.

How about Linda Fairstein or the Kellermans, Jonathan and Faye, they have both written seperately and a couple together, didn't really enjoy the one by their son Jesse.

lemonpuff-totally agree re Kellermans! James Patterson, some Tess Gerritson and some Tami Hoag

Love Karin Slaughter, Karen Rose is quite similar but also if you like Martina Cole then Jessie Keane is great also.

Mo Hayder - In fact she and Karin Slaighter often thank one another in their acknowledgements.
