I was laughing out loud at the synopsis of events given at the farmhouse.

This was such a fab book, too short!!
I loved the structure of this story and enjoyed the book so much more than One Day.
Hopefully theu will make a better job of a film, One day was rubbish!
Who should play the centurian???!

secretscwirrels · 06/02/2013 16:19

I really, really don't get this book. The language and style seemed childlike to me, it reminded me of The boy in the Striped Pajamas. I wondered whether the translation was a factor.

DuchessofMalfi · 06/02/2013 17:30

I finished reading it a couple of days ago, and loved it too. The style is simplistic, and naive, hence the child-like feel to it at times. A review I read somewhere likened it to Forrest Gump, and that's probably about right.

I agree with you Clare a film of it would be great. No idea who would play Allan though :o

We just read it for OUR book club and we are on Harold Fry next up!

hackmum · 09/02/2013 11:00

I recently finished the 100 year old man and loved it. I think it's so original though that you won't find anything else like it.

The language is deliberately simple and deadpan because to act as a satirical contrast to the terrible events it describes.

DuchessFanny · 09/02/2013 11:05

hmmmmm, are you all in my book club ? We are reading it for our next meet up, but honestly it's taking me 100 years to read it ( see what i did there ?!)
