I am almost finished 26a by Diana Evans and finding it so-so, don't know if I just don't have the concentration for it at the moment as parts of it seem excellent and other parts don't seem to even register with me. It could be me rather than the book though.

Just being nosey and looking for future recommendations or titles to avoid. Smile

May contain nuts is great(just finished it) I think John O'Farrell is excellent!
I am about to start 'The Lost world'

Our local library has stopped selling their books now -They are pulping them Angry

My to read pile is now around 100 books Blushas I had a clear out and swapped loads on \link{http://www.readitswapit.co.uk\here}

TearsBeforeBedtime · 25/03/2006 20:01

what a waste by your local library nikkie - you'ld think they could get a charity shop to collect them?

LadyTophamHatt · 25/03/2006 20:04

Memoirs of a geisha.

I'm only about 1/3 through it and its good so far. Can't work out if it's a true story or not, did read the notes form the author but can't work out whether all or some is real.
(in my defence I never get to read alone quietly, so may have missed the important bit saying so)

nikkie · 25/03/2006 20:06

All the locals are up in arms!,Its not even county wide -just our town Angry

MoonLady · 25/03/2006 21:06

Does anyone read Fantasy? I loved 'His Dark Materials' and anything by Sheri Tepper

MrsSpoon · 25/03/2006 21:12

LTH, I just recently finished Memiors of a Geisha and enjoyed it thoroughly. It's not a true story but the author did loads of research on Japan and Geisha, IIRC he extensively interviewed at least one former Geisha.

Finished May Contain Nuts today it was very refreshing and I will definately look out for The Best A Man Can Get or whatever it's called. Going to start The Sea, from my Booker bundle as so many have recommended it. Smile

Just finished The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova - a bit disappointing after a good start, imo.

Rattled through Stephen King's new one "The Cell" in two days - not one of his best, too gory (and I am a big fan) and I've just started Sheila Hancock's biography of John Thaw. I've only read the first chapter (and looked at the pictures) but she writes extremely well.

winnie · 01/04/2006 16:40

The Night Watch by Sarah Waters

saadia · 01/04/2006 16:45

Just finished The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - cannot recommend it highly enough (although I cried a lot), still thinking about it. The characters really stay with you and the writing is mesmerising.

mummygow · 01/04/2006 16:57

I've just started reading a book called Why cant' everyday be Mother's Day by Kirsty Scott it's about a SAHM, a Working Mum and a Trophy Wife - I need something a bit light hearted just now, so I hope it's funny!!

BadHair · 01/04/2006 16:58

Anna Karenina. Again.

clerkKent · 03/04/2006 12:43

Arthur & George, Julian Barnes. I'm loving it.

Dophus · 03/04/2006 12:51

Two inthe last couple of months and enjoyed both:

curious imcident of the dog in the night
shadow of the wind (started off well, found it a bit irritating towards the end but I think it was the translation style

bagpussmice · 06/04/2006 17:37

reading the Kite Runner and I'm gripped, just gutted I've not had more time to read it lately

saltire · 06/04/2006 18:50

I've also just finished The Kite Runner. Its not the kind of book i would pick up if i was in a bookshop, but i joined a reading group and it was this months choice. Fantastic book, would highly recommend it

edgetop · 06/04/2006 19:44

i have just read lulus i dont want to fight.
its been a good read.

MrsSpoon · 06/04/2006 21:40

Just finished The Sea and have to say it lulled me to sleep most nights it was beautifully written but I found that I was continually drifting away, still reading but thinking about something else altogether. I think I prefer something with more of a storyline.

Might start the Margaret Forster as recommended by Cod and bought by accident on Amazon one night after a glass of wine. Blush

Finished Arthur & George. I enjoyed it, but I think it would benefit from a good editor removing about 50 pages - but that doesn't happen to established authors. I half expected some twist in the tail, ut there wasn't one.
