Who's read "Red Mist" by Patricia Cornwell? Is it as shit as the last half dozen of her books?

I don't know if I can bring myself to actually pay for or read another Kay Scarpetta book. Port Mortuary was unbelievably awful.

But... what if it's actually good? probably not

Has anyone read it? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

I got as far as page 2 and grateful that I got it out of the library.

The first half was terrible but it did improve a little bit by the end. I was given it as a gift otherwise I'd have given up.

Jacksmania · 14/09/2012 21:39

Ahhh... yeah. Her books have gone that way in the last few years, haven't they. Did you give up throw it against the wall?

I'm about to board a plane so won't have Wi-Fi for a few hours - will check back later.

Well. It's looking like paying $2.50 for it from my eBook seller would be a massive waste of money?

Does it have all the same old boring tortured angst-ridden characters in it?

Yes. It's no better than Port Mortuary. If I had paid for it rather than borrowed it I would have been very cross, but I stopped buying her books a while back. She joins James Patterson on my list of authors where I actually gave up reading one of their books.

I hate it when long running series I have enjoyed before go off the boil. I gave up on Patricia Cornwell a few books ago and I agree with easy about James Patterson. Sadly Sarah Paretsky joined the list and I am currently pondering getting the sample of the next Sue Grafton, U is for undertow was not terribly compelling and I am so close to the end of the alphabet that I don't want to give up on the series before Z.

Glad I spotted this thread, I won't bother with it. I pretty much gave up after black notice/ last precinct (no sure which). I haven't read much of the Ayer Sue Grafton stuff so may go back to that.

Craftymoo · 15/09/2012 23:06

Ooops, that should be the later Sue Grafton stuff.. Sorry.

I think I've read it. Bought one of her books in the airport in May, and read it while away. I left it there, so can't say if it was red mist or not, but I think it was. It was actually OK, I'd not read anything of hers for years, and was a welcome distraction while abroad. I can't remember the name of the book, but the one where Scarpeta's niece suddenly appears in a fecking helicopter to save the day really pissed me off.

Jacksmania · 16/09/2012 01:18

Oh yeah... I remember that one. Not the title of it, but thinking "ok, yeah, I get that this is fiction, and a lot of the stuff that happens in these novels is unlikely in the extreme, but really, this takes the cake".

Just read this book and it was "ok", not as good as her earlier books by a long mark. Saw the end coming as there was a big clue in the middle x
