Finding a book club

Whitershadeofpale · 05/09/2012 17:25

I would really like to join a book club but am finding it difficult to find one. I've tried googling but all that comes up is one in my local library that begins before I'd be in from work. Does anybody have any suggestions? (I'm in Bromley btw)

TIA

How would you feel about starting one, would be the next question. Seems like if there was one, you would have found it by now.

Have you asked at your library? I don't think ours is on the internet but the details are in a folder at the library.

Why not start one? We have a village one which meets in the pub. So popular a second one had to be organised. I would keep numbers below 10.

I go to one set up by a friend. We take turns to host in our homes and when we host it's our turn to choose the book. Absolutely no admin. Smile

and our local WI runs one too and that's not on the internet either.

i started one myself via mumsnet: adult fiction. Put a thread up with name of area and asking if anyone interested. We met up in the local Costa first time then in each other's homes once we felt we knew each other. It is very successful and sill going 6 years later though I left as we moved miles away.

this time I asked at my library but ended up setting up another one through asking 2 friendly looking mums in my new street! It has grown from 4 people to 12 over the last 4 years.

there are loads of places to get help eg random books, penguin books and Red mag i think has one

I belong to several online ones on Goodreads - a good compromise if you can't find a local one to join and you don't want to set one up yourself. There's even a Mumsnet Unofficial bookclub on there :)

Thanks, I think I will try to set one up. it's only that most of my friends don't live locally that has put me off. I might start a thread to see if anyone's interested.

it's a good way to get to know people!
