It looked intriguing but the style of prose is hard to get into. Not very far in. Is it any good?

I know what you mean but I enjoyed it .. it's one of those books which has stuck in my mind since I read it, although the long-ago story was far more involving than the present-day one IMO. That's invariably the case with time-shift novels for me .. I think it's an over-used device tbh, but AS gets away with it in The Still Point.

Does yours have a beautiful cover? My son bought it for my birthday, quite a random choice, when it was just out. A few weeks later, I met DH from work and we went for a drink with a visiting colleague. We got chatting about books, colleague said "Oh, my niece has just had her first book published; not many people have heard of it yet." Was able to produce it from my bag :)

Yes, I liked the cover. It had paper collage picture and it certainly caught my eye. Is that what yours has? It's not my usual area of interest but I really wanted to get out of my reading rut so was spontaneous with this one. I will keep going with it. I agree with you about time-shift device being over used and being more interested in the historical part!
I read 'Random acts of heroic love' by Danny Scheinmann and it had the same effect on me.

How good must it feel to have a book published and then someone's got it in their bag? Must be very proud of their niece!
