After 3wks and still only at half way through the book, I've done something I HATE doing and very rarely do and have given up. Just too slow, too many characters and am half way through and nothing has happened.

Can anyone give me a brief description of what happens in the 2nd half of the book?

I love a period drama/novel, the setting was just perfect but just thought it had no story at all.

I'm reading this at the moment and really enjoying it. I think you soon get used to the jumps forward in time, which form basic structure to the novel. I'm only about two thirds through though, so will have to get back to you. A the moment Daphne is an old lady and Paul is trying to write a biography of Cecil. Daphne's daughter seems to have died but we haven't found out how yet. They have all moved house! Two acres has been converted into flats and Cecil's home is being used as a boarding school. More later!

Oh I loved this book! It moves onto Daphne as old lady in reduced circumstances, and a journo weighting biog of Cecil trying to get the lowdown on him etc.

The problem is that it's more character than plot so doesn't sound like much is happening but if you didn't enjoy that aspect of the book I imagine it just sounds crap!
