If you're an Agatha Christie fan then which stories do you prefer?

Definately Poirot.

onedev · 22/08/2012 21:59

Miss Marple Grin

Marple I think

LucyEyelesbarrow · 22/08/2012 22:46

Miss Marple.

I like Poirot but do find the 'gathering everyone in a room and laying the case against each one' denouement a bit irritating when it happens time and again.

omri · 23/08/2012 12:11

Miss Marple.
And if we are going to talk about the tv series; Miss Marple with Joan Hickson is my absolute favourite thing to watch still. Dont really like the new marples.

My dp got me the box set of Poirot recently - so stylish so fab. david suchet is great and i love all the ones with Captain Hastings.

elspethmcgillicuddy · 24/08/2012 20:04

Aha Lucy eylesbarrow! I found you! Tried to change my nn to that last night but it was taken. I really aspire to be her too... So capable!

Anyway, my vote goes to Miss Marple (obviously)!

epeesarepointythings · 24/08/2012 20:57

My vote goes to Poirot, because I have David Suchet in my head the whole time.

lljkk · 24/08/2012 20:58

Poirot.

coffeeandwine · 24/08/2012 21:02

Poirot.
Can't beat those little grey cells.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/08/2012 21:03

Marple. Don't like Poirot at all.

starfishmummy · 24/08/2012 21:18

1st. Joan Hickson as Miss Marple.
2nd Poirot

thewhistler · 25/08/2012 15:52

Marple. No question. Grey cells just as acute and less vanity.

Always thought she should be fluffier than Joan hickson.

Always wanted to grow up to be Lucy E. So capable and sooo expensive.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/08/2012 19:44

Poirot - can't stand Miss Marple. Hate both on TV.

HerBigChance · 25/08/2012 20:25

Joan Hickson is splendid as Jane Marple - I watched 'A Murder is Announced' this afternoon, one of my favourite episodes.

Poirot is ace, too. I like the fact that they operate in different ways.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 26/08/2012 16:38

I have only read Poirot, but that is based on the fact that I love David Suchet's potrayal. He is continental which I like, it is amusing when he doesnt quite get jokes etc.

babybythesea · 27/08/2012 13:11

I like both.

I don't think I ever want to stay in the same house as Miss Marple though.

My theory is that actually, she's the killer.

Poirot gets called in to solve things - people know of him, and come to him to ask for help.
Miss Marple, on the other hand, seems to mysteriously be on hand at the critical point. Coincidence? It's one too many coincidences for my liking. I think she's dangerous.....

goingtoexplodesoon · 27/08/2012 23:14

Poirot is best. I agree with babybythesea. All those murders- and she just happens to be there? Then she sets up a suspect and sends them to jail- and because they're meant to be a murderer, no one listens when they say it was her. I've always wondered about that in all the murder books and programmes. Suddenly- wherever they go- murders occur and they magically solve them. I'm suspicious...

MrsJREwing · 27/08/2012 23:18

I like both on TV, never read the books.

LucyEyelesbarrow · 28/08/2012 11:35

Lucy is a fabulous character, isn't she? I wish I had a bit more of her no nonsense efficiency.

I do agree that David Suchet is a marvellous Poirot. My husband is not an Agatha Christie fan but he really enjoys the TV adaptations; though he does keep asking where the proof is for Poirot's theories!

cheekydino · 28/08/2012 11:39

I like Tommy and Tuppence Beresford ones the best (just to be contrary!). Found them less predictable than Marple and Poirot, though love them too.

GriseldaClement · 28/08/2012 14:54

I have to say i enjoy them all.

I love reading a Miss Marple and I also like to read all of the Tommy and tuppences' an a block once in a while too as well as Poirot.

Joan Hickson cannot be beaten as Miss Marple and David Suchet is a superb Poirot. I have almost everything on dvd and can't wait until David finishes filming the last of the books, although then there will be the sadness of there being no more.
I am an addict, even had the tables at my wedding named after Agatha Christie books!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 28/08/2012 19:31

Griselda that is brilliant.

I am going to keep an eye out for some Marple I think at book sales etc. I am in charge of the school bookstall - it could go terribly wrong when i buy all the books.

ariadneoliver · 29/08/2012 22:01

Difficult choice, but on balance I'd go for Poirot. I recently re-read The Big Four which is a bit of a departure from the usual and is going to be made into an episode this year.

SusanneLinder · 30/08/2012 13:04

I like them both but would have to go for Poirot, but I agree the "getting everyone in the room" is a bit samey.

Loved David Suchet, and Joan Hickson.Joan played Miss Marple the way I imagined her.Dithering but with the mid of a razor. The current Miss Marples change the story far too much. The "Nemesis" one was just awful. Changed the whole story-absolute rubbish.
