Bit embarrassing to be posting about this series on the adult fiction board...
Just wondering if anyone's read all 13 books - and whether they enjoyed them. I found parts tediously repetitive, and the end of the final book was seriously frustrating, but I couldn't bloody stop reading them!

I have taught year 5 this year and read the entire series to my class - they've absolutely loved them. Intending to do the same with new Y6 class in new school come september....

yes I have read all 13 books and loved them!
the DCs really enjoyed me reading to them from these books, and it took years.

I liked the sly literary references and the surrealness (?)
The last book was a bit....hm....disappointing, and I know what you mean about the repetition, the premise of the story is repeated at the beginning of every book.
loved them though!

I really enjoyed them too, although I agree that the series was 2 or 3 books too long.

Even more embarrassing is the fact that I bought them for ME, thinking DS would read them when he was old enough. Now he is, but has shown no interest in them; he saw the film and it put him off, even though I keep telling him that the books are miles better.

I do read a fair bit lots of YA and teen fiction, but these just didn't do it for me, they were just that bit too young I think. That said, for what they are, and the age group they are aimed at, they are brilliant. I just couldn't quite ditch my inner adult enough to really love them.
