I hope you enjoy it!
I've recently reread some George Elliott and didn't enjoy the storylines anywhere near as much. The descriptions though are wonderful!

I loved Middlemarch the first two times I read it so hope you enjoy it.

In fact I must reread it this winter .. I want new books for my summer holiday though!

I was disappointed! I expected to love it and everyone said I would but I just didn't. I think I found everyone a bit irritating and humourless and although Dorothea is clearly the one you can most identify with, she's sufficiently bound up in doing good things and subsuming herself in her husband's work that it just feels a bit suffocating. Obviously this in part reflects how women's lives were then but I don't feel that with Jane Austen's characters who were, if anything, even less free but have a fizzing humour that feels liberating.

I think this is just me though - everybody loves Middlemarch.
