Is it worth my while?

definitely. Read it when it first came out and remember loving it. I lent it to someone who didn't give it back so I bought it again as it was a bookshelf must-have for me.

Socci · 04/03/2006 10:18

In that case I will read it - I've been wondering about it for a while.

Absolutely. VERY well-written.

tissy · 04/03/2006 10:30

loved it

canadianmum · 04/03/2006 10:48

loved it too!

hunkermunker · 04/03/2006 10:49

Yes. It's one of those books I wish I hadn't read yet so I could enjoy it all over again for the first time.

amynnixmum · 04/03/2006 11:25

Fantastic - read it in 2 days as i couldn't put it down. I'm looking forward to seeing the film now.

Sorry to put a dampener on this. I read this book when it first came out - I actually bought it in hardback I was so impressed by the reviews - but I hated this book - overhyped bollocks in my humble opinion - but that's only me.

Its a great read, I read it years ago and really enjoyed it. I wonder if the film would match up.

BadHair · 04/03/2006 14:55

Really enjoyed it, and I don't normally "do" fiction. Was extremely disappointed at the very, very end, though, but suppose I'd better not say why.
The Liza Dalby book about her experiences as the only ever Western Geisha is also a good read.

Cristina7 · 04/03/2006 15:10

I loved the book. I was bored by the movie. It didn't do the book justice, I think. Didn't help that some of the characters didn't age at all in the movie and I was confused as to who was who (didn't help that I had my DD along who was figuring out how to walk up and down stairs, so had to chase her as well).

sharklet · 04/03/2006 15:22

Agree on the Lisa Dalby book - "Geisha" it was very interesting and insightful.

I didn't love it but enjoyed reading it.

Ooo DH has just come back from charity shop shopping and brought back that book. Cost 40p! Excellent. Looking forward to a good read now :)
