to be played by Tom Cruise???! Really?!

Look at the movie trailer on IMDB if you get a chance...he's at least a foot too short & is nothing like you would imagine Reacher to be. :( It could have been so good.

(Was going to post in movies...but you'd need to have read the books to know what I'm on about)

There was a thread on here months ago when we expressed disappointment, now it's actually a reality I can't believe they've gone through with it. Lee Child says JR's size is 'symbolic'. What a load of crap.

I was GUTTED when I heard this ages ago.. of all stars, TC to play Jack Reacher (who I am in love with incidentally!) is about the most ridiculous decision ever. I have read every Reacher book and he survives on his power and his build... he can break a man's neck with one hand whilst putting out another three villains with the other hand. He has gravitas - TC does not. I have seen a trailer and it's sacrilege, TC looks like a midget compared to the villains.

There's even a FB campaign to put a stop to it!

I wonder if his resume that appears at the front of some of the books will now say 'height - variable'

I just hope Lee Child isn't influenced by the films (or the studio) to start modifying the book character. I haven't read the recent ones, but the Kathy Reichs books about Temperance Brennan are now all called 'Bones' something, to tie in with the TV series (which I love). This is fine but book Bones and TV Bones have virtually nothing to do with each other (though I do love the fact that TV Brennan is a novelist whose fictional heroine is called Kathy Reichs). Let the film do what it does, as long as Lee Child keeps writing the 'real' Jack Reacher.

I can't see Rracher going much longer tbf. He has to be in his 50's now. I think he'll have to bow out soon :-(

OFFS just caught up with this... so wrong for TC to be playing Reacher who in my mind was a big, hunky, muscly bit of rough...

I love Jack Reacher. I hate Tom Cruise. This film makes me sad :(

Leiv is too young in my mind. But pretty easy on the eye.

I always image the janitor from Scrubs as him. He plays the dad in The Middle too. He's reallllllly tall

Jack Reacher must be 52. In 61 Hours he refers to having been 2 y.o. at the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He doesn't 'read' as that old but you're right. I imagine him as middle/late 30s. But then he does talk about Berlin etc so I know he's older than that. Would someone in their 50s be able to take on the brutes that he does? Bearing in mind you never hear him say he's been down the gym or done any training recently I imagine him going to seed in the near future.

I can't do links from my phone, but the actor Im talking about is Neil Flynn. I think he's about 52 now.

I would have been better than TC. I'm 5'3'' but I suspect that makes me either the same height or taller. And I'm harder

My DH could have done it better. He's a shortarse but has a vein that throbs on the side of his head when he's pised off. Most un-nerving.

LOL at Shrek. I think Shrek already has Reacheresque characteristics, such as when he puts out the flaming torch and says quietly "this is the part where you run away".

In fact, if you're going to put someone physically completely unsuitable into the role, why not go for Mike Myers? He's a better actor for one thing. And he had that Kung Fu training for Wayne's World.

Or why not Clint Eastwood? Yes he's too old but he's a hard nut, he could definitely kick Tom Cruise's arse in a fight.

Btw I love the idea of Woody Allen as Reacher. Or how about Matthew Morrison in Reacher: The Musical?

Was it Tripwire thst described reacher with shoulder length hair and hands the size of shovels? For me, Reacher is blonde but don't remember if I read that or made it up.
