Book for escapism!!

Can anyone recommend a great,escapism novel for my hols?
I like a good thriller(nothing gory or violent),hate chick lit & not fond of historical novels.

The Complaints by Ian Rankin is pretty good...I don't like chick lit either! Ian Rankin has a nice easy to read style, but he builds up the suspense. If you want something stranger, Iain Banks and Complicity...makes you work harder, but worth it.

Fabulous, great escapism, you lose yourself in it

You could try Restless or Ordinary Thunderstorms, both by William Boyd.

Or Ghost, Enigma or Fatherland, by Robert Harris. Interesting ideas, suspense but not gory crime.
