We have a costume from ghana

DD loves it and wants to wear it - but feel we need a book or story with someone in traditional African Dress
to kinda justify it

I don't know how old your DD is but there is a simple book called Handa's Surprise which is about a girl from Kenya. The author is Eileen Browne and you can find it on Amazon.

THere are 2 Handa books and this would fit the bill perfectly. A lot of libraries have them as BIG BOOKS.

Amazing Grace is sitting beside me - but it doesn't have any Trad. dress

Would it matter that her outfit is from Ghana and Handa's Surprise is Kenya (I'll have a look and see if I can see any pictures)

In Handa's surprise she is wearing a little dress - so no good

TBH I don't think it will matter too much if the dress is from Ghana and the story is Kenyan.

Katymac- doesn't Akeyo in Handa wear traditional african dress? I haven't got a copy to hand but felt sure she did. I think she is being too literal.. wearing her african costume and clutching the book will be fin. no one checks for accuracy. It's supposed to be fun.. isn't it?
