The Marriage Plot - worth sticking with it?

I know there is lots of Book Club discussion on this book, but I simply need to know whether this is worth pressing on with? I'm finding it dreary and very hard work so far. Is it one of those you need to get 100 pages in and then all comes good or if I don't like it early on, I'm not going to like it later either??

I've not read any of his other books, so maybe his style just isn't for me!

TIA

It was the first Eugenides book I'd read too, Anonymous. I read it for the MN Bookclub a couple of months ago. I very nearly gave up. I got to about page 60 and decided it was just too much hard work, took a break for a week whilst I read something else :) and came back to it and finished it.

I ended up really liking it, but it wasn't an easy read. It does get better, but it isn't a novel full of twists and turns and high drama.

I finished this book last week. It was fine but not great; I preferred Middlesex by a long way.

While reading The Marriage Plot I kept waiting for it to really grab me but that didn't quite happen. I'm a completer though .. so I did stick with it to the end :)

I think I may just ditch it, I borrowed from the library, as I remembered it was MN book of the month recently, but there isn't anything urging me to go on!!!!

I am always a bit disappointed not to finish something but in this instance, I have barely started so will just call it a day.

Thanks for the info. Going to completely change tack and read Devil Devil and hope that I don't feel the urge to chuck this one away as well!

Having read (and finally) enjoyed it, I've now got The Virgin Suicides and Middlesex on my tbr pile.
