If I liked Notes on a Scandal, what else would I like?

I don't mean the story per se, but the writing style - the way it's told. I just love it.

I'm also a big fan of Zoe Heller. Her book 'The Believers' was really good too.
My other favourites are Melissa Bank and Laurie Moore. They're both American writers but they have something similar about them. Have you read any of those?

I luuurve Notes on a Scandal. Have you seen the film? Super.

What about Donna Tartt? Similar almost detached cool writing style.

Alurkats thanks, will give Believers a go.

Yellow I have seen the film - brilliant isn't it? JD is perfect in the role.

Might have a look at some Donna Tartt - some of her work was featured in a course I did at the weekend, strangely enough. Any particular recommendations?

She's only written two books, The Secret History and The Little Friend. I loved them both, but most people seem to prefer The Secret History.

Judi Dench is perfect, so is Cate Blanchett. I LOVE IT.

It's an old one but a fantastic one, The Collector by John Fowles.

And perhaps as a newer one, A Kind of Intimacy by Jenn Ashworth.

They are both told from the point of view of an unreliable, unlikeable but very compelling narrator and both left me as keen to find out what happened as Notes on a Scandal did.

Try The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. It hadn't appealed to me, but when we read it for my book group I was impressed. Also enjoyed Arthur and George by the same author, although it's quite different.
