This book was recommended to me by somebody on here ages ago.

I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying it and thanks.

This book is on my list of 'best books ever'. And even though it is very long it doesn't stop being brilliant right to the end. And it has never been made into a film, which is strange as good stories always end up on celluloid.

Enjoy!

One of my all-time favourites too. I can see that it could make a good film, although the subtleties of the various relationships would be difficult to portray as effectively as RH does in the novel.

I've read it twice and would love to revisit it soon.

Ugh - I was bored half to death by it! I read it after a rec on here but it didn't do much for me and I had high hopes...

Glad you're enjoying it though. I liked bits of it and thought the characterisation was good but overall it irritated me. Can't say any more until you've finished it though!

ok. don't say any more! so far so good anyway.

Was it me? I've recommended it on here several times. It's one of my favourite books.

Also on my 'all time favourites' list. Have you read any other Rohinton Mistry? I also really enjoyed Family Matters and Such a Long Journey, they are worth reading if you are enjoying this, but IMO they don't top A Fine Balance.
Let us know what you think when you've finished it :)

its good but bloody depressing!

Very well written but one of the most depressing books I've ever read.
