UNder The Dome rekindled my love of Stephen King but was lt down quite badly by 22.11.63. It will always be The Stand for me.

petitfiloser · 04/05/2012 20:36

oh yes, the stand is definitely the best ever, i read it and reread it;

Just started The Green Mile today, I read The Stand a few weeks ago, great story but so long!

Duckypoohs · 05/05/2012 01:37

It's odd but I am not that fond of the stand, I like it but I don't think it's his best. I also have never read the talisman, I adore black house, but can never get more than a third into the talisman.

I don't really do short stories I don't know why. I love the Bachman books though, running man and the long walk are absolute classics.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2012 16:42

Has anybody read, 'The Wind Through The Keyhole' yet? I was disappointed with it - lovely but pretty pointless imho and more like a children's book than part of the series.

Now re-reading 'The Stand' - I love it but it seems to be taking a long time to get going this time around.

The Green Mile is v good.

redlac · 06/05/2012 16:44

Long walk has got to be one of my favourite stories ever along with eyes of the dragon. I'm going to force dd to read eyes of the dragon when she is old enough

TheCountessOlenska · 06/05/2012 17:22

My favourite is Firestarter which no one else ever seems to rate!

I also love Christine, Cujo and IT.

Couldn't be bothered with Under the Dome - didn't finish it.

Haven't read The Stand as have a mild phobia of flu pandemics - but maybe it offers some comfort?? Everyone says it is great though so maybe I should get over myself and read it!!

Rereading Misery at the moment - had forgotten how good it is.

Is Long Walk a Bachman book or a King book? Don't think I've read that one.

HermioneE · 06/05/2012 17:52

ignore my last post, found it on Amazon Grin should have known this thread would be bad for my bank balance!

I'm another fan of The Stand. It's best read when you've got the beginnings of a cold, for maximum scare value. Grin

Loved Cell and wanted more. Loved, loved, loved Under the Dome . Just finished 11.22.63 and liked it a lot. Not quite as good as Under the Dome I don't feel. But still a cracking story and well worth the read.

Might tackle The strand now.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2012 19:17

I thought Under The Dome was pretty much a return to form for him, after a series of not very good ones. Love that bit near the end with the boy and the soldier. Far better than Cell, which was essentially just The Stand rehashed but without such strong characters.

I started with a cold about 15 pages into The Stand this time!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2012 19:18

Envy of anybody waiting to read The Dark Tower for the first time.

HermioneE · 06/05/2012 20:19

Remus is The Dark Tower that amazing? It seems quite different to his other stuff, a lot more fantasy than horror... not sure about it.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/05/2012 20:30

I've got the dark tower waiting at the library to be picked up, never read it.

Currently reading Bachman Books, it's got the long walk in it.

redlac · 06/05/2012 20:33

Yes the Dark Tower is AMAZING!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2012 20:43

Viva - when you say you've got The Dark Tower waiting, do you mean the final book in the series? If so, it won't make any sense at all without having read the others first. If you've read the others, then you're in for a treat with the last one!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2012 20:44

It is fantasy, but then again I don't really think many of his other books are actually horror in the traditional sense. Like his others, The Tower's greatest strength is his characterisation.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/05/2012 20:48

Oh no, I mean the first one in the series. Gunslinger?? Am hoping it's good.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/05/2012 20:50

Hope you like it - but if you don't, try the second one anyway. The first is scene setting really; the story really takes off from the second.

Svrider · 06/05/2012 20:53

Talisman one of my favs
Also bag of bones, it, needful things, green mile
Not keen on any Bachman books, or under the dome, or hearts in Atlantis
J

MissPricklePants · 06/05/2012 20:59

I'm part way through wind through the keyhole and I'm loving it!! My faves are the Dark Tower series, The Stand, the Green Mile, IT and Salems Lot. The Talisman is also brilliant!
