Help me come up with a book quiz

I'm organising a family book quiz night at work in about six weeks and would like your ideas for questions and fun activities. The target audience is knackered, pissed off parents dragged along by their 11-13year old kids, so we want a range of levels of difficulty, a range of ages, a range of things to do.

We're also thinking of having book-themed food, either just to eat or as an identify-the-book round (chocolate pie, anyone?) so suggestions for that would be very helpful too.

Any ideas? TIA

Grin @ chocolate pie

I don't know if you're a member of goodreads but they have a never-ending quiz, you might steal borrow some ideas from there perhaps?

Love the idea of chocolate pie too Smile.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 06/05/2012 16:34

Oh, and how about all flavours jelly beans?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 06/05/2012 16:37

I have the Roald Dhal cookbook if you want some recipes - Matilda's chocolate cake is divine and has the little snippet of text from the book printed next to it, I'm more than happy to write out a few for you.

Are you going to arrange the quiz in rounds? If so, I suggest:

Percy Jackson and the Greek myths
Great British murders
Shakespeare (for dummies)
Pride and Sensibility

For other activities/games:

guess the book cover (google for book covers and use a computer to delete the wording)
identify the picture of the author
look on a site like Sporcle for a quiz like "Bible or Shakespeare" and you have to guess which phrase comes from which

NiceViper · 06/05/2012 16:53

Here is Sporcle's literary section which might provide inspiration (and all the LOTR and HP questions you could possibly want.

See here for a list of books that have at one time or another been banned. You could mix them in with other titles (you would have to check them though as the list isn't comprehensive) and get them to guess which have been banned. I did a talk on it last year for an assessment, the audience were amazed at what has been banned!

NiceViper - I LOVE Sporcle!

:)

I suppose 1984 would be a bit too easy!

I love those word/number puzzle things though. A book-themed one would be heaven for me!

I can't work out 2GOV and SWAT7D though - any chance of a hint please :o

LeeCoakley · 06/05/2012 19:23

Mmmm - heaven for me too!

One's Shakespeare and one's a fairy story. HTH Grin

Ragwort · 06/05/2012 20:22
