Looking for a book that's out of print.

When I had DS 9yrs ago, I bought a book called "Why Babies Cry". Can't find it on Amazon so I reckon it's out of print. The authors were 2 Dutch child psychologists. They studied lots of babies & discovered they could predict when cognitive growth spurts occured & what they actually were.

Has anyone got this book?

Karmamother · 13/02/2006 22:13

I'll have a look, thanks.

try bookfinder.com?

spacedonkey · 14/02/2006 00:16

I think this is it

spacedonkey · 14/02/2006 00:21

But as you say, it's out of print and people are waiting for used copies to come up on amazon

I've searched abebooks, but it's not on there either ...

Could you use a book search service?

spacedonkey · 14/02/2006 00:43

this is a link to the British Library Catalogue - you can search it for free

I got this book out of our library when ds was a baby about 3 yrs ago, have you tried there?

sammac · 14/02/2006 21:58

Thought I had it but just checked and it's "How Babies Think"- sorry.

roisin · 14/02/2006 22:11

I borrowed this book from a friend when ds1 was tiny, and found it really liberating! Has anyone else read it?

It basically suggests that at certain stages babies just cry a lot; and rather than spend ages agonising about what's wrong with them, and what you can do to ease things, you should just let them get on with it and cry a lot for a week or so.

It worked for me anyway

Gosh - this really takes me back. DS1 is 9 this summer! And I read it when he was just a few weeks old.

Miaou · 14/02/2006 22:15

roisin, did you get sorted out with overnight accommodation? Sorry not on my pc with the email on otherwise I would email you

Karmamother · 14/02/2006 23:21

Thanks Spacedonkey, it is Why They Cry. Thank you so much for tracking it down.
Roisin , I agree, it was soo helpful with DS. Can't believe it went out of print as it was spot on.

I shall be ordering it soon.

Oops, got a bit excited & didn't realise it was still unavailable. Wish I could remember who I lent it to 8 yrs ago.

Well, it wasn't me! I gave the copy back to my friend!

I often wish I hadn't though, it's a book I'd be fascinated to read again.

Waterstones do an out of print search service if you have one near you Karmamother.

Karmamother · 15/02/2006 22:24

Thanks Kate. I'm actually going there tomorrow to pick up a book I've ordered so I'll ask about it.
