Is today when we review it?

Is there already a thread? I can't find it. Can someone link if there is?

If there isn't - I just couldn't get on with it. I'm still not passed chapter 5. It's awkwardly written for me and just too much information, like she was trying to be too cleaver iyswim.

Right, I've had a and the difficulty is being an old fart and not being familiar with current young, so for some under thirty I'm probably going on looks alone.

Ralph Fiennes or Jason Issacs as Belmanoir
Gemma Arterton - Diana
Richard Arnitage - Jack
Martin Freeman - Richard
Sarah Harding or Billie Piper as Lavinia
Jack Davenport - Miles

I haven't discovered a Molly yet and I'm under pressure to stop hogging the laptop. Grin

First sentance ...had a think...

LadyDamerel · 11/05/2012 22:37

Gemma Arterton would make a great GH heroine. I could see her as quite a few of them - Annis Wychwood, Abigail Wendover and Venetia Lanyon for straters - she definitely has the right combination of looks and character, imo.

Billie Piper is too modern looking for my tastes. Even in the period dramas she's done she still looks like a 21st century woman dressed up, rather than a woman of the time.

I can't think of Molly either, although I'm racking my brains.

The girl who plays Stacey in Gavin and Stacey would look lovely in regency dress, I think. Perhaps she could be Venetia and Gemma Arterton could be Frederica.

That's her, Leonie.

Gemma Arterton has done something period-y already but for some reason I thought she was blond, rather than brunette Confused.

LadyDamerel · 11/05/2012 23:07

Adam Deveril - is he the one that marries Jenny Chawford?

ooooh Joanna Page as Venetia. I like that, she's got a very fresh look and she could do the fiestiness well.

I was thinking of Billie Piper because Lavinia is a bit of a mare and I thought she could pull it off.

Age is an issue isn't it? I'm not that clued up on the younger actors and actresses. Except for Christina Ricci, I love her and if she can ditch the American accent I really want a part for her, Kitty Charing maybe?

WyrdMother · 12/05/2012 09:40

Sorry, I'm a post behind Grin.

Honeysuckle Weeks and John Sim are both good choices, with John we've got the age issue again of course (Now, I wonder if he can get his hands on a time machine?)

Honeysuckle looks quite tall and a good pair of heels and cunning shots could help there.

LadyDamerel · 12/05/2012 11:59

Casting the male characters isn't too bad because they all tend to be in their 30s but the heroines are almost all late teens/early 20s aren't they? One of them is 29......can't think who right now, (Annis Wychwood, maybe?) but that's the only older one I can think of.

LadyDamerel · 12/05/2012 12:01

Is John Sim the one from Life on Mars?

Keeley Hawes is very pretty, she'd be a good call.

Never heard of her but Holliday Grainger would fit the bill for Arabella, perhaps?

LadyDamerel · 12/05/2012 12:21

Claire Foy is gorgeous. Andrea Risborough as Frederica?

LadyDamerel · 12/05/2012 13:24

Got it!

Brendan Coyle as Miles in Black Moth.

LadyDamerel · 12/05/2012 13:32

Keeley Hawes can be Georgiana Newbury in Sylvester.

minipie · 12/05/2012 17:43

Ooh, Andrea Risborough could be the Grand Sophy I think. I can see her taking charge.

Emily Blunt could do some of the slightly older (eg the ancient age of 27), more independent ladies too.

What about Jonathan Rhys Meyers or Rupert Friend for Vidal?

LadyDamerel · 12/05/2012 18:30

Duh.

I've just cottoned on to who Holliday Grainger is.

Leonie, you have my permission to point and laugh because you should know exactly who she is too.

LadyDamerel · 12/05/2012 18:32

Mmm, JRM would do very well as Vidal. Is he old enough though, isn't Vidal positively ancient (well, in his 40s anyway)?

LadyDamerel · 12/05/2012 18:34

How about Jamie Bell as one of the dissolute younger brothers or baddies (Leftbridge or Crosby in The Convenient Marriage, maybe?)

minipie · 12/05/2012 19:08

I meant JRL for Vidal the son (in Devil's Cub) - he's very young. In fact JRM is probably a bit too old these days...

For the Duke of Avon (in These Old Shades), I would suggest Alan Rickman but he probably is too old. He'd be great though

For Jack (in Black Moth), we just need anyone young and goodlooking with a charming smile really. Off to trawl some internet pics of hot young actors. Oh the hardship Grin

Keira Knightley could be good as Lavinia or Fanny in the later books - she would do a great job of the slightly spoiled personality . But she would need blonde hair and blue contacts which could be weird. Amanda Seyfried might work visually, dunno if she could do the personality.

Thinking of other books - Reese Witherspoon would be fantastic in a lot of GH roles.
