Dd 8yrs has just read Charlottes Webb in 3 days and loved it. She loves animal stories but has grown out Sheltie and Lucy Daniels. Any suggestions for what she might enjoy next?

The Red wall series by Brian Jaques is fantastic! she will love them I'm sure, though might take some time as they are a bit more advanced than what you have listed, I'm sure she will rise to the challenge once she gets into them!

What about Jacqueline Wilson?
Ds who is also 8 is reading Tracy Beaker at the moment and (despite his protests that it's a girl's book )he's enjoying it.

What would yopu guys recomend for my ds at 6 do you think Roald Dahl is too much?

mcmum · 10/02/2006 09:30

my ds thinks jeremy strong books are fab, bought him my brothers famous bottom and he can't put it down, bought from book people they have really good deals on there books. and i didn't have to bribe him to read it as normally hates reading

Lacrimosa, some Roald Dahls are perfect for six year olds.

I would recommend The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me, or Esio Trot (my personal favourite and ds, six, adored it).
bizzi, if C Northcote Parkinson's Ponies Plot is still in print I remember this horse tale with huge affection from childhood...
And is Dick King-Smith too young for your dd now?

bizzi · 10/02/2006 10:55

We have a box set of Jacqueline Wilson somewhere that ds read, I'll dig it out. She's read lots of Jeremy Strong and Dick King Smith, in fact reads and rereads D K Smith regularly.
Not heard of THe rEd Wall series will look into that thanks Lacrimoso, and Marina, I'll look out for The Ponies Plot.
Lacrimoso, dd1 loved Fancesca Simon's Horrid Henry books.
Thanks for your replies, any more hints will be gratefully recieved!
