When God Was a Rabbit - Sarah Winman. Not in any way similar to One Day, which I didn't particularly like, but this novel is one I really did enjoy.

What about The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides? I'm reading it, slowly, at the moment. It begins with students at University (similar start to One Day) but much much better written.

Thank you! Marriage plot looks good!

She also loved "me before you"

I just love crime and murder novels and trashy chick lit so in useless :o

The Secret history?

The Corrections - Jonathan Franzen?

highlandcoo · 22/04/2012 22:46

The Marriage Plot, The Corrections and The Secret History are all much, much better than One Day. Great books and hopefully most people would enjoy them, but if One Day is the sort of thing you like they are quite different...

Very similar in tone to One Day is The Death and Life of Charlie St Cloud, quite a nice book but one I will never reread. Also Jane Green might be worth looking at, and Adriana Trigiana.

If she liked David Nicholls, what about John O'Farrell - 'May Contain Nuts' is good. There are others too, but read the reviews first to make sure they're his novels rather than collections of newspaper articles.
