Just collected 24 copies of Rebecca to hand out! Anyone else distributing books?

How do you do it?

ElectricSoftParade · 17/04/2012 18:40

I am collecting The Alchemist tomorrow. Am quite excited!

ElectricSoftParade · 17/04/2012 18:40

I mean I am collecting the 24 books, not just one copy Smile

ElectricSoftParade · 17/04/2012 18:41

Moon I saw it advertised (I think on FB) and applied to be one of the givers. Try it next year?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/04/2012 19:22

Not givng now but love the idea. Where will you be distributing?

ElectricSoftParade · 17/04/2012 19:38

I plan to give some on the school run and then down our quite small high street. Such a great idea, am looking forward to it.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 17/04/2012 20:31

You sound like a nutter like me brave if you are willing to go upto total strangers on the high street and give them a book!

I saw the program about world book night last year and it stopped me from applying this year, I wasn't lucky enough to be chosen last year. The thing that put me off is that they were giving the books away in a really organised way and it was in places like prison or to homeless people. It made me feel guilty about wanting to distribute in our middle class ghetto.

ChippyMinton · 17/04/2012 20:32

I'm giving to my reading group, who have promised to pass their copies on to reluctant readers, DH and I are taking some to work, and I need a cunning plan for the rest...

ESP - it's a BIG box!

Really? Gah, am going into town on the train as car not available. May rethink my plan...

JJJ am going for the easyish option. Even though I won't know people I live in quite a small places, so will at least recognise some faces I hope.

Ilovedaintynuts · 17/04/2012 20:39

I'm a giver! I'm giving The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox.
Will collect tomorrow.

ChippyMinton · 17/04/2012 20:40

That's a great book. It was hard to choose, wasn't it?

OP posts:
Ilovedaintynuts · 17/04/2012 20:43

To be honest I chose one of the lesser known books as I felt I would be more likely to be chosen Smile
I think the point is just to get people reading and to think about books.

I'm going to the hospital where I work and will distribute mine on all the wards.

ScorpionQueen · 17/04/2012 21:14

I'm giving Room, which I first received from Mumsnet and loved. :)

saxony · 19/04/2012 20:18

Just collected my copies of Misery. Planning on giving to work mates, a few people on the school run and friends of friends. Not brave enough to walk up to strangers yet....
So excited

BooToYouToo · 22/04/2012 13:46

JJJ - distribution has changed this year. They've lowered the numbers from, I think, 41 to 24. The excess are being given directly to prisons and charities by the central organisers.

I have Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson. Thought I might see if our local pub wants some on their bar and maybe the toddler group to get new mums back into reading. As it is a travel book rather than a novel it is quite easy to dip in and out of if life is hectic.

Sadly, most friends who I mentioned it to have already read it.

littlerach · 22/04/2012 17:37

I am a Giver and chose The Road.
I am handing it to parents at preschool, coinciding with Book Start packs for the children.

i did the same last year and parnets were appreciative.

BooToYouToo · 23/04/2012 14:52

Positive response so far. I gave 1 to my aerobics teacher, left 2 on the counter at the gym, handed out 5 in the staff room at infants school where I work part- time and will top up with more tomorrow. Will also see if the pubs want some on their bar and take to the various activities the kids do this week to see if any instructors or parents want them.

ChippyMinton · 23/04/2012 22:40

Just back from a scout leaders meeting (I'm a parent rep) and gave away 5 copies. DH is dishing out 5 at work tomorrow. My reading group ladies will account for another 9 (to read and/or pass on to their more reluctant reader friends), then I will give out the remainder at work.
Everyone, so far, has been delighted Smile

I was worried about doing this at first but I could have given away twice as many! DH took a couple to work, I gave some out at DD's school to parents and staff, gave a few to friends, dropped a few at my local doctor's and have a few left to give at work. People were really positive.
:)

ScorpionQueen · 23/04/2012 22:55

No-one's given me one though...
