Kindle - does it make you a flighty reader?

With so many books on my kindle I am finding that I usually have 3 or 4 different books on the go!

Do you stick to the 1 book and read it or are you like me and flit between a handful.

I have 7 on the go Grin
I just like that they're all in one place really.

alana39 · 09/04/2012 22:43

Have 3 kindle books plus 2 paper books on the go. But I always have read with a different book in each room or bag so can't blame the kindle.

MagicHouse · 09/04/2012 23:05

Funnily enough it's done the opposite for me. I'm terrible for flicking to the end of books and getting bored half way through. I haven't worked out how to do that on the kindle, so I've had to read complete books if I want to know what happens in the end. I've read about 5 in the last few weeks, one after the other. A miracle for me lately, with two small children. I hadn't read a book for ages before the kindle!

IS it possible to flick through?? (chunks I mean - not pages??) I also sometimes want to flick back to check what characters have done, but can't! So I find the kindle a bit irritating tbh.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 09/04/2012 23:15

I always have read more than one book at a time - with the Kindle I don't have to worry about where I put them, or losing my place Grin

NoraHelmer · 10/04/2012 08:11

Magic - it is possible to flick through the kindle - my toddler grabbed my kindle and discovered how to do it, but he wouldn't tell me how he did it :o. Took me ages to get back to where I was.

Horopu · 10/04/2012 08:13

I have one proper book on the go and one or two books of articles/short stories (currently Saki and Charlie Brooker) for when I'm tired or have 5 mins to spare. It has made me less of a flicker.

celticlassie · 10/04/2012 15:51

I only ever read one book at the time on the Kindle - and have only failed to finish one since I bought it. (Although, come to think of it, I also have a Charlie Brooker that I did in and out of)

celticlassie · 10/04/2012 15:51

Dip. Blush

NatureAbhorsAHoover · 10/04/2012 21:46

now have 2 or 3 on the go with my kindle, I like it as can pick up on my moods and read serious/lighthearted/ sexy vampires as the mood takes me

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/04/2012 21:55

Athough I generally have about 4 books on the go (mine plays audio books so I'm counting those too) I don't think it makes me a flighty reader. Like the others I've always had more than one book on the go but often lost which page I was on and sometimes gave up on the book. With the kindle I read now more than ever so I think its made me a better reader Smile

Eggrules · 10/04/2012 21:59

I stick with one book and read it to the end before starting another. I read a lot more now I have my kindle.

Go to and search are the best features of your kindle. Very handy when searching obscure characters in Game of Thrones.

BsshBossh · 14/04/2012 20:39

I stick with one book at a time. But I have too many downloaded and queued Blush.

CMOTDibbler · 14/04/2012 20:42

I read v fast, so don't tend to have a book on the go - but I have a couple of factual books I am dipping in and out of on my Kindle which are a bit heavy to read through

Finocchio · 14/04/2012 20:48

Quite the opposite for me, I am alternating one modern lit with one (free) old worthy classic, and then I sometimes sidle off into teen classics pretending I'm checking them out for my dc but really I'm just wallowing in my past. Not flightly at all though, I am loving it, especially all the freebie classics.

Shoshe · 14/04/2012 20:54

Usually have one reading one on the go, and one audible (for in the car on my hour commute).

BrianButterfield · 14/04/2012 20:55

It's actually made me less of a flicker - with real books I find I have them dotted around the house and read whichever is to hand, whereas with the Kindle I pick up where I left off and never lose my place.

lolajane2009 · 15/04/2012 16:35

i must have at least 5 on the go atm and most are free/very cheap books.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 15/04/2012 16:38

I've always been a bit of a tart anyway when it comes to books, usually have many on the go - Kindle just means that most of the books I'm reading are in one place rather than scattered about the house...

ChippyMinton · 15/04/2012 16:45

I have a kindle book on the go, and my reading group's paperback. I need to read the kindle if I can't sleep, because it has the light built-in, and very kindly turns itself off if I fall asleep Smile

Have found myself gorging on 'the complete works' of authors - just read a load of Sherlock Holmes and now dipping into Dickens. It's nice to have them all to hand, I've been able to check out the Dickens whenever I hear a story recommended.

eurochick · 18/04/2012 13:38

I tend to just read one at a time. Although I usually have a French novel on the go too, which I dip into from time to time to try to keep my French up.

fedupwithdeployment · 18/04/2012 13:46

I have a tendancy to read the sample, and then not bother with the actual book, unless really gripped...

DidISayThatOutLoud · 20/04/2012 13:10

I was a serial last page reader... I know, I know, completely spoils the book, or confuses you so then you have to read the last chapter not just the last page.. the kindle has calmed me down, (because it takes me too much effort to have to go to menu and blah blah blah) I have all of my neat collections and I love being able to read from book 1 of a series through to the last book!

Have never had more than one book on a go, but then I read A LOT so get through books really quickly!

On my kindle, if you pull up the menu, you can choose "go to" and put in page number :) or go to "end" then flick back a few pages, hehehe.

carocarocaro · 26/04/2012 21:26

I have lots on my Kindle TBR list. I guess I'm a hypocrite too,mas I have the first couple of pages that are books I'm happy for everyone else to see me read. Then I have some more erotic one's on pages after that for when I'm on my own or late evening when kids are in bed...and my OH is at Speedway or Choir practice which I don't do.
I hope it's ok just to join in on these threads. Only I wasn't sure if it was a friendship group.

OverflowingMum · 28/04/2012 09:28

well, I have just downlaoded Kindle app on my phone, and in the last 3 weeks I have read 2 whole books (room and before I go to sleep) from start to finish which is amazing for me. I used to devour books when I was younger....then life happened LOL I have 6 kids aged 4-13 and I work almost full time so have found it hard to summon the energy to get back into reading. But something about having them with me on my phone wherever I go seems to have helped!
I have now got a couple more waiting to be read but do intend to read them one at a time. Having said that I did download a couple of dog training books too which I have read at the same time but donet really count those....

roisin · 28/04/2012 09:59

I read loads of free first chapters! I often want to read more than an odd page in a bookshop, but don't feel comfortable doing so.

I love the fact that with kindle you can easily read the first chapter or so and then decide whether or not to buy.
