After much deliberation on a previous thread, I started the 1st book, even though I've seen the tv series - well, thank god, otherwise I wouldn't be able to keep up with who's who, it's impossible with all these names...!
So far, it's exactly like the tv series so I am skimming
Bring on book 2

I read these as they came out, and have the most recent one here but haven't started it yet. I enjoyed them as I read, but simply couldn't keep a lot of the characters straight in my head. Now I find that I can't remember enough plot details to get the most out of the new one, but can remember too much plot to want to read them all again Confused
It's just a bit too epic. DH has just got the box set of series one on dvd though so I might watch those and then tackle the new book. He halved the characters for the previous one, and this one is the other half apparently, so it might be ok.

it doesn't help that they've all got convoluted names....am glad I watched the series first, at least I can more or less remember who's who by their description!

I read the 1st book (after watching the series), but didn't find i got any more from it than i did the TV series, so I gave up. I found the bits that were really good in the series were good in the book, but there is a lot of extra historical waffle that I could do without.

god, dont say that, I was going to skip it and start reading the 2nd one and everyone told me not to, that I had to read the 1st even if I'd seen the tv series........!
