Have just finished her latest and there is something really bugging me, as much as I like her books. Why are all her central characters so bloody annoying and immature?!!!

I know. They are a bit cutesy and 'look after me, I'm just a silly girl', aren't they? Especially Becky Bloom. However, SK books are my secret, guilty pleasure. She is so much better than the average chic lit, and the only ones I read now. And actually make me laugh out loud. The rest of the time I feel I have to read something a bit more high brow!

I agree. I think they are just for light, fun reads. They can be addictive when you are in the right mood!

Try her writing as Madeleine Wickam, the formula is a bit different for those ones, and I have really enjoyed them - and I am someone who finds Becky B a real pain at times

recent Guardian interview

I think her books are crap and Becky is a complete idiot, imo.

My brother bought me one of these shopaholic books for Christmas a few years back (he choose me very odd books, bless him, but he is young) and I read it in a fit of desperation (nowt else to read) one Saturday.

I couldn't stand it, it is up there with cupcakes, shoe obsession, Carrie Bradshaw, white zinfandel. 'embrace your curves girfriend' and Boots adverts showing 3 women linking arms and shrieking as all that is wrong with the cliched view of womanhood today.

I love an easy read (could read Jilly Cooper and Penny Vincenzi til the cows come home) but bloody hell the vast majority of chick lit is BOLLOCKS and the heroines are saps who need a good clip round the ear, imo.
