my son asked me to order Divine Comedy, Great I thought, haven't read it myself, but is it inappropriate reading. Have since read some.

Wholly appropriate ( I am Italian and studied it in school for 3 years, 15 to 18) but please make sure you get a good annotated edition: without a good translation and a good introduction/notes it would be difficult to understand and appreciate. But it is an absolutely brilliant read, especially at his age. Point him to chant V in the Inferno, towards the end: the story of Paolo and Francesca and the poetry about love is fabulous.

Well done to your son on discovering this: what triggered his interest?

Can't imagine that anything is inappropriate for a 14 yr old...
Unless you want him to use his own money :)

He came home from school early last week after reading a little in English, or Rs, he's very vague, and he is loving it, only reads in short bursts, but prompts alot of questions. He's just about to start purgatory.
