I have just re read The Turn of the Screw for the first time in years, I think it has a lot of discussion matter for book club. I really enjoyed it.

I'd second Dark Matter by Michelle Paver, it was very good.

We looked at Dark Matter and The Little Stranger this autumn; a few years ago we read The Turn of the Screw and A Jealous Ghost by AN Wilson (a modern re-write of Turn of the Screw). For those who read them, they really enjoyed them (though The Little Stranger was loathed by some); but I would check that all your group are happy to read ghost stories. Half of the group I belong to were really not keen.

We are reading dark matter this month. I have no interest in ghost stories whatsoever but it's well written with believable characters so far (am half way through)

The Mercy of Thin Air by Ronlyn Domingue is very good if you want a ghost story that isn't at all frightening.

It's about a young woman who dies in the 1920's and then watches over a modern day newlywed couple while thinking about the love she lost when she died. It's set in New Orleans and it's really very good.
