Do you mean a book On Shimla? In which case it'll be a travelog type one.

I remember reading quite a funny book called " Staying On" about an eccentric English couple. It was set in Simla. Not sure if Rumer Godden had any stories set there....

Have just googled it ...written by Paul Scott. There was a film made in 1981 based on the novel, It was filmed in Simla - stunning scenery. Good luck, lovely idea!

Marking this as both DM and DGF were at school there.

he would prefer perhaps a guide to Shimla or Shimla now and then. Thanks for the links but the one I found was out of stock and the other book was a kindle

I've also read 'Staying On' quite recently - it's really good. Funny and sad. It's set in a fictional hill station town which is probably / possibly based on Shimla.

It's not a book, but the BBC recently did a really good documentary series on the hill station trains, one of which goes up to Shimla. Perhaps that might be available on DVD?
