see, i love jason but i saw conan the other night and i really hated him in it!

ValarMorghulis · 09/01/2012 22:31

I have actually come over all sweaty. I love that scowl, and that scarred eyebrow. Phwoar. what i wouldn't do to that man.

yes yes about jon and Bran being so very close.

There are so very many close calls and crossed paths. Especially Sam. The silly sod seems to bump into everyone without realising.

ValarMorghulis · 09/01/2012 22:32

oh Dany noo don't say that.
I've just added it to my lovefilm list.

I don't care. I'd watch it on mute and still enjoy it. yum yum

WinterIsComing · 09/01/2012 22:35

Grin at watching Conan on mute

DaenerysTargaryen · 09/01/2012 22:58

sorry valar but i actually meant he doesn't look as nice in it. his face looks different somehow and his chin looks funny.

sam! oh. my. god.

ValarMorghulis · 09/01/2012 23:02

shit. did i give a spoiler? I didn't think i did. I shant say anymore then just in case.

Daenerys - i think Its cos Jason lost the beard for Conan. Im still in love with him.

DaenerysTargaryen · 09/01/2012 23:06

yes, a beard defo suits him.

no spoiler (i don't think) he came across arya in AFFC and obv bran before that, who else is there?

ValarMorghulis · 09/01/2012 23:10

yes i was thinking bran and Arya. but when you said sam! i thought i had gotten the books wrong.

think he has crossed paths with others or had close calls with others too but i cant think now.

WinterIsComing · 09/01/2012 23:11

Yes he bumps into Bran and Arya, someone else in ADWD then?

I don't understand why he didn't realise about Ayra as she is supposed to really resemble Jon (and Lyanna)

OP posts:
DaenerysTargaryen · 09/01/2012 23:36

thats why my 'sam' had a ! after it... he's sooo dopey! i meant it as a wake up sam!

WinterIsComing · 09/01/2012 23:52

Ha ha - I see that now. Yes, he is very daft.

Goodnight from Ned

I have a confession to make. I just 'stalked' winter here from another thread
(waves at Winter) after doing a douuble take at the name.
Can't believe I have missed this thread!

WinterIsComing · 10/01/2012 00:19

Hello Sonotwonderwoman Smile

You haven't missed this at all, it's very new. Welcome!

MotherofDragons · 10/01/2012 09:16

morning fellow fan! you all well?

welcome notsowonderwoman.

agree that Sam's close calls are nail-biting

NooneWantsToBeAGreyjoy · 10/01/2012 09:22

do we like this name better?

MotherofDragons/lissie

NooneLikesAGreyjoy · 10/01/2012 09:26

or this!

ValarMorghulis · 10/01/2012 09:32

Well i do like MoD but NLAG is good too.

I can' help but not hate reek though. i know i should, be i just can't. I think Ned's influence has touched him despite him trying to fight it.

Hello to Sonot.

NooneLikesAGreyjoy · 10/01/2012 09:52

sticking with this I think.

I feel the same way about Reek. his behaviour (vile as it was) was borne out of his fathers pretensions and ambitions. he doesnt really belong anywhere.

ValarMorghulis · 10/01/2012 10:18

exactly. He was taken at a very young age and raised by Ned, yet never accepted as his son or a Stark.

When he returned home he was outcast by his kinsmen as being a soft northman and no longer an Ironborn.

I think his actions were born through a desire to be accepted. Ned no longer could, Robb was off being King and Theon was and could never be more than a friend. He would never rule or have any power as Neds Ward.

As Balons son he needed to prove himself in battle. His plan, as deceitful as it was, was incredibly clever.

He wanted to appear to be a brutal Ironman but he spared Bran and Rickon, and in fact his ruse to appear more brutal saved their lives. Had Ramsey realised they still lived he would have hunted them and killed them for sure.

NooneLikesAGreyjoy · 10/01/2012 10:26

he has never been able to prove himself (look at robbs reaction when he killed one of the wildingfs who had bram in book 1) he has been humiliated and rejected at every turn. He is essentially a tragic figure.

ValarMorghulis · 10/01/2012 10:36

I must say that i do spend much of the book being horrified at the way the children are treated.
I am often distracted by the lifelong psychological damage being done at such a young age.

And Theon is so very definitely the proof of that

ValarMorghulis · 10/01/2012 10:39

I think that is one of the reasons that you have to read the books twice.

The first time you are so aware of the sub plots and the hidden meanings that you sort of miss the beauty of the story. You are reading a name and racking your brain trying to picture where the fit, how they are related to whom and what that will mean as the story unfolds.

I spend the whole time trying to work it out before i get there iyswim.

So its not until i read the second time, knowing what is to come, that i can fully appreciate it all.
