Would a Freya North fan enjoy Marian Keyes as well?

Just looking for a book to buy for a friend.

yes, i do!

KatieScarlett2833 · 09/01/2012 16:32

Marian is a zillion times better

MrsKitty · 09/01/2012 16:33

Yes. I'd also suggest Adele Parks, Jane Green or Fiona Walker

NuggetsForTeaAgain · 09/01/2012 16:33

am reading a great book atm 'Muymmy Said the F Word, by Fiona Gibson. Also, Kathy Lette is similar to Freya North in style and humour.

GeneralGrievances · 09/01/2012 16:35

Marian Keyes writes well-written, funny trashy novels. Freya North writes the same trashy novel many times Grin (ditto Adele Parks actually). I'd say Keyes would appeal, certainly.

eurochick · 09/01/2012 16:37

Yes. Also have a look at Polly Williams.

NuggetsForTeaAgain · 09/01/2012 16:59

i love a good old chick lit book Smile

snuffaluffagus · 09/01/2012 17:00

Oh god Marian Keyes is a billion times better than Freya North!!

A Freya North fan will no longer be a (insert-quirky-soap-and-water-lemon-scented-shampoo-posh-background-fallen-on-hard-times-but-ever-so-loveable-and-sometimes-says-cock) fan after reading even the worst Marian Keyes (and the most recent have been twaddle)

FN is just Mills and Boon with swearing.

snuffaluffagus · 09/01/2012 17:32

Aw is she still poorly? Bless her.

By the way, you should probably start her with Watermelon.

thepeoplesprincess · 09/01/2012 21:30

Cheers ears, I shall get her Watermelon then.

Rachels Holiday is better

Grumpla · 09/01/2012 21:35

I agree that Marian Keyes is way way way better than FN, but I did LOVE the FN about the Tour de France (Cat?) and would recommend it.

I still have nightmares about cyclists putting mashed bananas in their pants to stop the chafing after that one.

My favourite MK is Lucy Sullivan followed by Last Chance Saloon.

chocolateyclur · 10/01/2012 08:11

Hmm. I don't like chick lit generally, but FN is a guilty pleasure. Do I kindle an MK novel just to try it out?

SuePurblybilt · 10/01/2012 08:13

Honestly, those sisters made me stabby after a while. And that self-consciously fey writing. Blee.

Marian x a squillion. And I agree with whoever said Fiona Walker (rip off Jilly Cooper, very readable)

NuggetsForTeaAgain · 10/01/2012 09:20

oh yeah Last Chance Saloon is a great read!

snuffaluffagus · 10/01/2012 16:12

Rachel's Holiday IS the best but chronologically story wise comes after Watermelon.. not that it matters toooo much.

IndigoBell · 10/01/2012 16:33

Rachel's Holiday is the best.
