DH is was thinking about starting to write a novel. He's not clueless by any means, he's had a little bit of publishing success with some short stories already and he's sort of started it but I was wondering about getting him a writing course for his christmas and birthday (he's 40 in Jan)

Is it worth it for a author who has had a modicum of success? are they any good? Will it teach him anything? can you do them online?

The Open University does a good one that can be done mainly on line.
It seems excellent, a friend of mine is doing it at the moment.

Arvon residential courses?

Get him the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook 2012 here

It has lots of useful information in.

I second the advice about getting the Yearbook too.
