Nan is 77 and likes reading old fashioned stories
Can you recommend some books to buy her for Christmas

The Maeve Binchy books are usually set in Ireland in the 50s and 60 and have happy endings.

Does she like detective stories? You can't go far wrong with books by Agatha Christie, Margery Allingham and Ngaio Marsh, again set in the 30s to 60s.

If she likes historical romance, then Georgette Heyer's These Old Shades or The Grand Sophy are good.

If you want a classic, then how about a Dickens or two: A Christmas Carol - as it's Christmas, and either A Tale of Two cities or David Copperfield.

My grandma really likes 'the people's friend' magazine for the stories. How about a subscription?

My Last Duchess is a recently published 'old fashioned' story, a bit Downton Abbey -ish. Can't remember the author, sorry, but my Gran liked it.
