Yes.

Read th book first so at least you get the 'real' version.

Read it!! Especially now the nights are dark and stormy. Great old fashioned ghost story. It won't take you long.

And yes, I believe the film is based on the book. The play is pants-wettingly terrifying.

It will be my next read then........thanks for the replies.

I have not read the book but the play was brilliant, seen it twice!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/11/2011 17:51

I didn't like the book much. DD1 saw the play recently and said it was very scary. HOW is it so scary though - tis only two blokes on a stage, right?

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 26/11/2011 18:01

Read the book at school and watched a very good tv adaptation. Was v.v. scary and our teacher had to keep pausing it to give us all a chance to calm down. Defiantly read the book.

remus it is so atmospheric, its chilling! The sound, the lighting, everything is spooky and there are moments that will have you jumping out of your seat with fright. It's well worth seeing if you get a chance. I wouldn't want to say more and spoil it.

was written as a play, book must of come later, was written very quickly to fill in a spot in a theatre, great play, looking forward to seeing if the film is any good.

I have been trying to find the novel for aggeesss. Just ordered it from the library. I love Susan Hill. You must all read 'Family' by her. It's the best written, saddest true life story ever. Oh and the Simon Serrallier novels. She is my total heroine. Gush over. Blush

Norriscole, is Family her autobiog, then?

norriscoleforpm · 05/12/2011 17:16

Family is basically the story of how she and her husband struggles to have their second child. It is soooooo sad. Brilliantly written. [rushes to re read it, snivelling]

DazzleII · 05/12/2011 17:31

Thanks, Norris, will have a looky at that.
