I've just brought/bought (?) this for my kindle as it sounded good. Is it one that needs perservering with or is it good straight away?
If any of that makes sense...

I loved it. Not seen the film yet but apparently it was great too.

I got into it pretty much straight away and stayed up to 3am one night finishing it.

It had excellent amazon reviews which tempted me in! Although I have so many kindle books I'm only a bit of the way through. Real life keeps getting in the way

I love this book! I am reading it now and I don't want it to finish!

mollschambers · 23/11/2011 16:54

I've just started it and haven't really got into it yet. Still undecided but will persevere! SIL loved it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, but felt the ending was a bit open-ended - maybe Katheryn Stockett is planning a sequel? I'd love to know how the maids' lives panned out through the 70's and 80's.

itsalladirtylie · 23/11/2011 18:01

I found it pretty easy to get into

black2sugars · 23/11/2011 18:19

Just finished reading it. Could hardly put it down. Thought it a bit romanticised at first but liked the references to real events in history. Without giving too much away, I wish there was more written about what happened to Minny.

The film is excellent.

The book is v easy to get into and I loved the first half but thought the second half was pretty ridiculous and the ending was rather unsatisfying.

One of the few cases when a film is way, way better than the book imho.

MudAndGlitter · 25/11/2011 06:34

I'm 90% through it and don't want it to end which is nice. It's been a while since I've read something and enjoyed it this much.

Excellent. It was unusual that in my book group everyone loved it.

MudAndGlitter · 25/11/2011 09:38

Just finished it. Really loved the book but can't help hoping desperately for a follow up to appear. Preferably yesterday so I could stay with the characters!

A wonderful wonderful book - my book of 2011.

The films surprisingly good too, not as Hollywood-ised as I thought it would be.

Read and see both!

Everyone in my bookgroup loved it too.

Cybbo · 26/11/2011 18:21
