Any recommendations? I HATE mushy stuff! Love sci-fi, twist in the tale, afterlife-ish or funny. Hate over-weepies, but love a good sad bit!!

Anything interesting??

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Attwood.
Brave New World by Alduous Huxley.

Just finished My Sister's Keeper (Jodi Picoult) at 2.35am yesterday! Thought it was pretty good.

Don't know what to go for next though...

Sci fi scfi or fantasy type things?

For fantasy type, I loved the Robin Hobb Assassins trilogy (beware though, it is 3 sets of trilogies, so can take a while ).

Hmmm... brain gone completely blank right now. Do you want books you can really get into, or an easy read?

Flamesparrow · 04/01/2006 23:04

Oooh, an old one, but one I love - The Chrysalids... John Wyndham.

mummytosteven · 04/01/2006 23:05

oooh yes Chrysalids and Midwich Cuckoo by John Wyndham are fab.

ta for suggestions.

Flame I prefer scifi. i like both types of book- an easy read is good for the nightstand - read a few pages every night! but it is also lovely to sink into a book and read from cover to cover (I get lost - its like i jump into that world iyswim)!

Small Island by Andrea Levy is very good if you've not already read that.

DH is much better at the sci fi suggestions, and he's gone out (Bloody inconsiderate when I want to ask him questions for people he doesn't know )

My2pw, what sort of scifi have you enjoyed before? Name some authors, and I should be able to make recommendations.

(Eg. Ian M. Banks? James Tiptree Jr? Neal Stephenson?)
