An Evening With Terry Pratchett

Right, I had no idea where to put this!! I didn't know where it should go so I plumped for here. Apologies if it's the wrong place entirely :)

On 18th October Terry Pratchett is appearing at the Theatre Royal, Dury Lane. I am a mad Pratchett fan (clicky the linky for my Pratchett Collectors Blog) so I couldn't miss the chance to go.
Unfortunately I am having to go on my own and I am finding this very daunting (despite the fact I am normally a bolshie little article :)). I live in the North East and haven't been to London in about 15 years and I have never been to this part of London.

I was just wondering if any MNetters were going to this event, I know Pratchett fans are a friendly bunch but it would still be nice to hear from anyone else attending to steady my nerves a bit :)

I'd come like a shot if I had a ticket, very Envy. London is quite easy to get around, and I'm sure all the other Pratchett fans will be very friendly.Smile

I can't wait. It will be a sad occasion as I have been a fan for many years and have gone to lots of events to see him. I can't help worrying about what the future holds for him.

I am nervous as I have been housebound since July due to an injury, I've barely left the house, I've just started going out more and getting my confidence back but this seems like a big step! I've booked a first class rail ticket (as a treat and it was fairly cheap) so that I feel nice and comfortable. I'm staying with my brother but he lives miles from the centre of London so I will have to get into town and out on my own on the night. I'm quite excited as it's a bit of an adventure :).

I didn't even know it was happening till I saw it randomly the other day, I saw it and booked it immediately which is very unlike me, even 2 weeks notice seems a bit short! However, sadly, it may be the last chance I get to see him so I can't miss it.

I'll definitely come back and let you know how it went, so excited. Wish I could take you all with me now :o

well, I made it, I said I'd let people know how it went so here goes!

I got myself down to London (proud). After not really leaving the house for five months I'm so pleased I did it, has done my confidence no end of good!!
The show was good but seemed very short as time flew! Terry was very funny and I learned a lot. I did manage to meet up with some very friendly people so I wasn't entirely on my own.

I had a lovely wander round Covent Garden and discovered that my navigation skills are shocking! I had to resort to taking a photo of one of the map boards on my phone so I could constantly refer to it :)

I did enjoy myself and I'm very pleased I got to see it but (and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say this) I think £45 per ticket may have been a touch overpriced and I'm a massive fan.

I didn't make it up in time for breakfast anything this morning Blush. I welled up at the end of the show. His wit was as sharp as ever though, he was highly entertaining.

I've just gone back to work this week after 5 months off so it feels like everything is finally getting back to normal. It would have taken a big motivator to get me to make such a journey and luckily one came along :). Feeling a lot less 'weak' iyswim. Feel like I'm getting back to my usual self :)
