i have just bought a kindle - don't care about waiting for the new Kindle touch anymore - here down under will be waiting for 100 years for it to arrive! So, i am off to Samoa for 2 weeks next week and need some recommendations. I am an eclectic reader - like good crime type thrillers (Nicci French, Val mcDermid), Alexander macall Smith, Joanne Harris, kate Atkinson, Barbara Kingsolver, Barbara Trapido , Anne tyler, Anne Fine, loved Atonement and on Chesil Beach but disliked Enduring love. Also like homegrown authors - Alison Wong, Rachel King, don't like Janet Frame. Come on, hit me!!

Susanna Gregory's Matthew Bartholomew series is a great series of historical crime fiction, set in Cambridge in the Middle Ages.

A bit lighter but I've really got into the Scarlet Pimpernel series.

Non-fiction: John Simpson's 'Not Quite World's End' is a fun one for travelling.

If you like Anne Tyler, then I would recommend Rose Tremain.
