which book shall i read next?

I havent really got into a book for ages but am looking forward to 4 days off and plan to take dcs on picnics etc and get into a book! I have in my pile to read- Crimson china
pile of stuff at the bottom of the stairs
hymn of the tiger mother
the help
when god was a rabbit.
which one will get me into reading again? or any other suggestions?

The only one I've read of those is When God was a Rabbit and only read it as it was for our Book Club. Really wouldn't recommend reading it as a way of getting you back into reading.

I loved The Help - I enjoyed the story and got caught up in the characters. Just a warning, it's not 'light and fluffy' and some the material is quite hard to read. Hymn of The Tiger Mother was interesting and a quick read for me - I wouldn't say it would get you back into reading though.

I'd say to go with Crimson China (on my reading list but just finished Shanghai Girls so all China-ed out this week) or Pile of Stuff at the Bottom of the Stairs.

I can recommend Shanghai Girls - read it in under 24 hours and thought it was excellent. There's a new follow up out called Finding Joy or similar too.

Oops, missed the 'Battle' bit out of the title of the Tiger Mother book.

I would read "The Help" if you want sucked into a "can't put it downer". I read it last year and loved it.

OK - if you want a SUPERB book to read, try 'Lonesome Dove' by Larry MacMurtry. It's a western, but it is next to unputdownable. I am a voracious reader, extremely 'wellread' etc etc - and I would have to put it in my top 10. I had an operation about three months, and could barely put the book down.

Honestly - it's SO gripping, one of the best things I have EVER read.

Have you read One Day by David Nicholls? Really enjoyed that one. Also, The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and as ShoutyBag already suggested, Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes. Looking forward to reading The Help soon myself!

Forgot The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafron. Another great read.

The Shadow Of The Wind is totally brilliant - one of my favourite books of all time. Good suggestion rosy.

Have to highly recommend "The Secret Garden" Kate Morton (or anything of hers really!) - a brilliant read.
