My DP an I are having our first baby boy in a fees weeks and I would like to read more into his culture and gain some knowledge. He is Indian/Hindu and is a devoted follower of Harri Krisna. General books and also maybe a novel. Any guidance and advice is very welcome!!

I don't have any non-fiction recommendations but there are a lot of good novels written by Indian authors out there.

A couple of my favourites are The God of Small Things and A Suitable Boy.

Bhagavad gita - there is an English penguin publication.
You can learn a lot from Amarchitra comics which is aimed at children( not sure if it is available in UK but certaintly worth hunting for as you and your child can use it later)
Peter brook's dvd of Mahabharata is available from amazon( not a book but the story is enacted by western and Indian actors ) might appeal to you.
Good luck
