Was racking my brains trying to remember what I read when I was younger to contribute to Bourneville's thread.

I had completely forgotten about Sweet Valley High!

Anyone else read this drivel?

hunkermunker · 29/11/2005 23:38

LOL! Yes, I read these. I remember far too much about them, I'm sure!

Do you remember the Sweet Dreams books too? Had forgotten all about them until now!

(I read Forever too...filth, wasn't it? )

moondog · 29/11/2005 23:41

No.

Even at 13 I knew that there was something terribly wrong about them.....

hunkermunker · 29/11/2005 23:42

Oh, MD, you missed out! There's still time to read them though...

moondog · 29/11/2005 23:44

I was always a snotty little thing.

(Did do a bit of Danielle Steele in me time. Ceeerrrrrinnnge!!!!)

Hazellnut · 30/11/2005 08:07

I was more of a sweet dreams than sweet valley high girl . When I had a saturday job in a bookshop aged about ...er... 17/18 we used to sneak away to the far end till and hide one under the counter and read it because you could read them in a day even whilst serving customers.

superblastofflips · 30/11/2005 08:09

was the books about the 2 blonde twins?

superblastofflips · 30/11/2005 08:09

nailpolish · 30/11/2005 08:11

i read sweet valley high

and watched the telly progs, but i was a bit too old by the time they came out

there was the nice twin and the bitchy twin, but they always had loads of equally gorgeous mates and the nice twin had a steady boyfriend, with a car. oh and the twins had a car they shared

fabulous

superblastofflips · 30/11/2005 08:13

PiccadillyCircus · 30/11/2005 08:16

I read SVH .

And Forever (including of course that page.

PiccadillyCircus · 30/11/2005 08:16

And Sweet Dreams

spagblog · 30/11/2005 08:17

God yes, and didn't one of the twins have her bedroom painted the colour of a hershey bar? I never knew what a hershey bar was until a trip to Florida and thought - bleugh, what a hideous colour for your bedroom

spagblog · 30/11/2005 08:17

Oh and Judy Blume! That Forever book was legendary. Also, hello god it's me Margaret!

Nightynight · 30/11/2005 08:46

Sweet Valley High came out when I was at university. Ive read one though, in a bookshop, standing by the shelf - I just couldnt put it down!

mummyhill · 30/11/2005 09:19

Guilty as charged. Sweet Valley High and Judy Blume books were a simple must in my early teens.

Lizzylou · 30/11/2005 09:32

Embarrassingly yes...and Judy Blume (esp the dirty parts of Forever in the playground...I thought it all sounded so disgusting!).

MascaraOHara · 30/11/2005 09:37

Yep and me - read it around 12 - it was so in fashion!

expatinscotland · 30/11/2005 09:42

Someone gave me one when I was about 14. I took a lot of joy in burning it.

Roobietherednosedreindeer · 30/11/2005 09:44

Is this a particular age thing? These books seem to have totally passed me by (I'm 37). When I was 14 it was all Virginia Andrews "Flowers in the Attic".

I read the Sweet Valley Twins ones - the prequels to SVH. I loved them. Jessica had this rich, popular, bitchy friend called Lila and Elizabeth worked on the school newspaper. And a girl called Lois was bullied. It's all flooding back

WigWamBam · 30/11/2005 09:54

They passed me by too, Roobie, and I'm 42 ... this is obviously a thread full of spring chickens

mummytosteven · 30/11/2005 09:56

oh yes. remember the "lavalier necklace"???

NomDePlume · 30/11/2005 10:01

God, I loved Forever and Are you there God, it's me Margaret ('I must, I must, improve my bust')
