A book on Third World Debt?

Ages ago in the midst of the Niger famine crisis, we were talking about what best to do and someone recommended a book about cancelling Third World Debt or easing famine. It was written by a woman I remember that much.

Can anyone remember the title?

An old friend is coming for xmas and his new wife is a big cheese at the World Bank in DC and I want to brush up on the subject so I can sound like a grownup. And of course make my own informed opinion on the plight of the poorest nations.

The book you're talking about is by Noreen Hertz and is called the Debt Threat. Very good, very readable and full of ideas about how things might be changed.

Have forgotten most of them now though - pregnancy brain. Must re-read!

Although I do remember her being pretty scathing about the world bank, so you're going to need to do some extra reading for when they get all defensive about it!

Oxfam's website has some pretty good links to further research and studies on the subject, if you're feeling keen.
