Cant find a thread on this one but just finished reading this beautiful book.

I have never started a thread recommending a book before but honestly this one had me in floods of tears.

Read it everyone.

I totally agree! Not my usual type of book but thought it was really good - couldn't put it down.

I agree. have you read Sister by this author. Just as good.

sleepingaurora · 14/09/2011 08:54

I have read this book, It is my favourite book that i have read this year. It had me totally gripped right to the end, and even had me in tears in places. i have to say i preferred this book to sister.

grumpypants · 14/09/2011 09:01

Wow! I loved Sister and then forced myself through this one, as it felt like a load of sentimental drivel. It's so weird how books can polarise opinion!

LineRunnerCrouchingReindeer · 10/12/2011 12:41

I read Sister, it was OK. I read Afterwards, and it was a much better read.

I asked my 15yo DD to read it. She did, she cried at the end, she really enjoyed it. We talked about it and the relationship between the mother and her daughter, and it was A Good Thing.

I like afterwards. I thought that sister was brilliant while I was reading it and cried loads, but was disappointed with the ending.

I've just downloaded 'sister' and 'afterwards' onto my kindle, I read the samples and had to read the books!

Callipygous · 26/12/2011 23:30

I'm with Grumpypants. Made me gag on the first page. Polarisation indeed.

Ilovedaintynuts · 26/01/2012 11:09

Hate hate hated Afterwards. Over-romantic drivel. So disappointed as loved Sister.
Worst book I've read in ages.

CiderwithBuda · 26/01/2012 11:13

Didn't like Sister but liked Afterward. Can't for the life of me remember what it was about though!,,

BeeBawBabbity · 26/01/2012 21:18

I hated Sister. I felt cheated of a proper end. Don't know if I'll bother with this one.

thefurryone · 03/02/2012 08:58

I quite enjoyed Sister but really really couldn't take to Afterwards. I just wasn't able to suspend my disbelief enough to get onboard with Mother and Daughter being able to communicate like that. Perhaps if it had just been the mother I would have been a bit less annoyed by it.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/04/2012 09:07

I didn't like Sister either, it was disappointing after seeing it recommended so many times on MN, my copy is heading straight to the charity shop. So implausible in so many ways.
