I think it says in the first book that it is eye - lah but am prepared to be corrected!

Mollymax · 12/07/2011 19:51

I would say the first one.
Isla is the second.

AwesomePan · 12/07/2011 19:52

I know an Ayla, and she pronounces it Ay-lah.

shrinkingnora · 12/07/2011 19:54

Sorry - I was assuming that the OP meant in the clan of the cave bear books as this was in adult fiction!

AtYourCervix · 12/07/2011 19:57

Page 53, where Creb is trying to pronounce her name:
" Aay- rr", "Aay- lla, Ay-la?"

So Ay-lah from your opening post. I darn well hope so as it's part of my daughter's name!

Mollymax · 12/07/2011 20:14

Oops. Did not see it was in adult fiction. Blush

mrsbabookaloo · 12/07/2011 20:15

Don't know about the Clan of the Cave Bear books, but it's a common Turkish first name and as such is pronounced Eye-La, Just the same as the scottish name Isla.

AtYourCervix · 12/07/2011 20:46

that's what confused me. thought it was Ay-La and then met a turkish baby ( v cute) called Aylah (Eye-Lah).

I'll go with Ay-Lah.

In the first book it definitely tells you near the beginning but I cannot remember for definite which way it was. It's really annoying me now!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 13/07/2011 11:27

I always pronounce it Eye-lah. This was our name for any DD but I say this as I read it as a Turkish name and phnetically this is how we would say.

elphabadefiesgravity · 13/07/2011 11:43

DD has a schoolfriend called Ayla

It is pronounced Eye la

CherryMandrake · 13/07/2011 22:52

i love the clan of the cave bear books, i have them all. have you read the latest one?

2kidsintow · 31/07/2011 21:09

I've always pronounced it like Isla....I'm sure I read something in the book that helped me come to that conclusion, but can't remember what.

kayb123 · 10/08/2011 18:43

sorry for dragging up an old post, but has anyone read the last book yet and what did you think?. i currently have it on order, but all the reviews i have seen are not to good.

wildstrawberryplace · 10/08/2011 18:53

Run, run for the hills. It's really terrible. I think it may have been ghost written in order to coin it in before the author dies fulfill contractual obligations.

tallulah · 10/08/2011 18:56
