OP posts:
kiwijesta · 17/07/2011 07:07

Oh yes please of there's space! Also a quick question, are they meant to be new books (as in release date) or can they be ones we know and love?

Haribojoe · 17/07/2011 07:17

was going to ask that kiwijesta have already got a book in mind, it's not new but is my all time favourite.

dinkystinky · 17/07/2011 07:23

Swampy - imaginary alter-egos don't count you know...

I think suggestion up thread is for it to be a book you don't mind not seeing again- so if a dog eared all time favourite would have you in tears at losing it - I have at least a shelf full of those! - dont send it.

clingingtosanity · 17/07/2011 07:47

If there is still room then I'd be interested in joining in too please! Smile

Ok, that keeps us going for a year and two months. But I suspect a couple I've put on here will bow out .

swampster · 17/07/2011 21:12

So that's it then, enough to get started. Anybody have any pet hates? Old books better than brand new ones. Realistically, despite best intentions, you are unlikely ever to see your book again...

gailforce1 · 17/07/2011 21:21

Please no horror/si fi/chick lit otherwise anything goes!

swampster · 17/07/2011 21:36

Agreed.

And everyone HAS to come back to discuss the books they read even if it is just a sentence...

dinkystinky · 17/07/2011 21:43

I had a fantastic book in mind, but it sort of falls under steampunk/scifi/horror genre (but also in the Jane Austen/comedy of manners genre) so its out. Am now going to go sit in a corner of thinking of some non-horror, non- sci fi, non chick lit gubbins to send round. Dont blame me if its boring as all hell...

musttidyupmusttidyup · 17/07/2011 21:46

Am I too late?
Am a bit stuck in a book rut....

swampster · 17/07/2011 21:47

You can always dare to break the rules. Last time round we had a no sci-fi rule and my favourite book by far was the science-fantasy jobbie that someone sneaked in.

That's 15 - so I've already broken the Rule of Twelve...

dinkystinky · 17/07/2011 21:49

ah but when you break the rules, anarchy spreads and the book clun dies a death... I dont want to be the cause of that swampy Grin

Welcome to the clun Musttidyup

swampster · 17/07/2011 21:58

Is it a cross between a clan, a club and a cult?

swampster · 17/07/2011 21:58

I vote we call it a Book Cult.

dinkystinky · 17/07/2011 22:03

Nah, Book Cult smacks of people wearing mumus, not shaving their legs and necking the cool aid

Book clun has that aura of mystery that is guaranteed to draw the crowds in Wink I reckon its a club that's been hit by the recent hun invasion...

swampster · 17/07/2011 22:05

Book Cunt?

dinkystinky · 17/07/2011 22:09

I do believe we have a winner.

We're going on a book cunt
We're going to have a big one
What a beautiful sunday
We're not scarred (by Swampy's previous book club failures experiences)

acsec · 17/07/2011 22:12

oh sad times, I am too late :(

dinkystinky · 17/07/2011 22:14

acsec was it the clun that drew you in? Budge up everyone, am sure we have room for a little'un

acsec · 17/07/2011 22:19

Thank you - yes it was definately the clun!

So when does this start and how does it work, I'm a newbie (but reliable and eager to broaden my reading horizons - my DP says I'm a book snob)

kiwijesta · 17/07/2011 22:20

I second no horror/sci fi/chick lit!
Am very excited, my DD is 6mo and I've manages 2 of the Famous Fives and 2 from the Anne of Green Gables series.

swampster · 17/07/2011 22:21

I annoint you Fat Controller of the Cunt, dinky. Welcome acsec, are you sure you want to join such loons?

dinkystinky · 17/07/2011 22:24

See I told you Swampster - the clun will draw in the crowds...

See above acsec - we all send on a book to the next in the list (one you can live with losing as it seems a dead cert the clun will break down at some point) and report back once each month to say what we got and what we thought of whatever we got to read of it and on it goes again.

I have thought of the book to inflict on you non-sci fi readers out there - are we allowed to disclose what it is before we send it on? All I can say is you only have yourselves to blame (you could have had a book revolving around cream teas, parasols and hunky scottish werewolves instead)

dinkystinky · 17/07/2011 22:25

I am honoured Swampy
