Right - kids all back to school now and so hopefully the clun will resume its normal(ish) reading patterns. Hopefully everyone still in the clun has a book - you have till end of September to finish reading the current book. At the end of September, we all reveal what book we have currently (title and who by - and who put it in the clun) - and send the books back to original owners.

Swampy has asked for a fave kiddie book clun - anyone up for that?

dinkystinky · 10/09/2012 10:07

Bumpety Bump

No one up for lashings and lashings of ginger beer, high jinx at Mallory Towers, gollum craving his precious etc?

Calico1 · 11/09/2012 09:30

Hi - I didn't get a book this time :-(

Whoever has my books don't worry about returning them - please hand them on to someone else or give to a charity shop as I have more books here than I have shelf space!

Never did get 'the Tome' so I am curious to know what it was.....

dinkystinky · 11/09/2012 11:49

Calico - am done with my book (though not sure if you've had it - Three word title, white cover) so can send on to you if you like?

musttidyupmusttidyup · 12/09/2012 12:57

Just getting this thread back in my active convos.

jojoanna · 12/09/2012 19:14

I would like to join if there is space?

jojoanna · 12/09/2012 19:16

sorry just realised this is an old thread opps

Calico1 · 12/09/2012 22:45

Thanks Dinky, that's kind but don't worry as I can't remember if I have had that one Confused! Memory not what it was...

dinkystinky · 13/09/2012 11:40

Hi Calico - its by Tony Parsons (might help jog the old memory) so let me know if you'd like it. Sorry jojoanna - we're about to wind up this clun but pretty sure there'll be more book clubs getting up and going on the book club/swaps topic.

acsec · 14/09/2012 22:42

I have 2 books, can't recall who owns them but I'll look and let you know and send them back if the owners want them. Though I might hold on to 1 and read it when I've finished the book I'm currently reading.

dinkystinky · 19/09/2012 17:22

CALLING ALL CLUN MEMBERS

The clun disbands at the end of this month. If you have a book, please pop on here and say what it is (and who put it in the clun). You should pm the book sender to see if they want it back.

The book I had this time round was "Man and Boy" by Tony Parsons. No name in the book. If you popped it in the clun, please let me know and will arrange to post it back to you.

Its been fun being fat controller of the Clun - and reading a wide variety of books. Swampster wants a fave childrens story books clun next - if you're up for that, chip in on this thread too.

Thank you

That Fat Controller of the Clun

musttidyupmusttidyup · 19/09/2012 17:47

Thanks fat controller. I don't have any I posted all on last month as didn't want to be late again.

dinkystinky · 19/09/2012 21:32

How super-efficient of you Musttidyup.

One more thing - everyone in the clun (or those remaining in) to let us know what their favourite book they read in the clun was.

I really like The Two of us (the one with the icecream on the cover) and the thirteenth tale

musttidyupmusttidyup · 19/09/2012 22:05

Am reading the thirteenth take at the mo- skipped that one in the clun but ordered off amazon as came highly rec!

musttidyupmusttidyup · 19/09/2012 22:05

Oh I loved loved loved A Town Like Alice.

Calico1 · 20/09/2012 08:50

Hi all, I really liked re-reading the Town Like Alice.

Don't think the Two of Us got around to me....I'll look it up. I've really enjoyed being in the clun - read lots of things I wouldn't have chosen so that was great.
Not sure if I'll have time for the childrens book clun at the moment. x

dinkystinky · 20/09/2012 09:15

I never got a town called Alice but remember reading it at school and love, love, loved it too.

The Two of us was Kiwi's or Haribo's plug book I think - anyway I really enjoyed it. Calico - if you're anything like me, you're probably having to read childrens books anyway at the moment to L and DS1 - we're currently reading Dr Doolittle and DS1 loves it. I heartily recommend "The Sheep Pig" by Dick kingsley Smith - both boys ADORED it.

dinkystinky · 20/09/2012 09:18

Oh - and if you can remember post the books you bunged into the clun so we can see the full variety that was in there.

I bunged in

  • Midnight in the garden of good and evil
  • Soulless
  • The handmaidens tale
acsec · 20/09/2012 20:36

I also really enjoyed A Town Like Alice and The Thirteenth Tale. I think I was the only person who enjoyed The Tome (The Bronze Horseman) and I'm currently reading the 2nd in the trilogy :) I loved The Gargoyle too. Also liked Mister Pip. Didn't really like The Death of Mr Love or the Irish immigrint one which I can't remember the name of - about a girl who moved to America and was a bit of a div.

I currently have Swampy's Dragon Tattoo and Piebald's Kindred. I'd like to hold on to Kindred for a bit and read it but then I'll send it back. PM me your addresses :)

I sent The Male Cross Dressers Support Group by Tama Janowitz, I think it may have been a clun casualty :(

musttidyupmusttidyup · 20/09/2012 21:05

Oh yes I likes Mr Pip too... Although was shocked at the sudden awfulness :-( agree re the Irish girl (Brookyn?) readable but rather blah. Struggled with Mr Love and didn't enjoy. Same as Acsec then really. I love The Tome. The Bronze horseman is my fave book. Can highly reccomend pretty much anything by Paulina Simmons, I have loved all but one of her books. After I read the BH I emailed her (through website) to tell her how much I had loved it and received a wonderful reply from her, very personal. How lovely that she took the time to do this.
Don't dis the tome. Grin

dinkystinky · 20/09/2012 21:13

If you dis the Tome it ends up on your doorstep Grin

Isnt it funny how many books in the clun didnt get round to me - I've had Swampys dragon tattoo and Piebald's kindreed and The Tome - but didnt get Mr Pip or irish woman book or the death of mr love at all. Did get some book about a ghost mother (cant remember the name) and Acsec's book (with the pink pants on the front) but my head wasnt in the right place to read it sadly.

acsec · 20/09/2012 22:13

I didn't get any of Dinky's books, nor Man and Boy, nor The Two of Us.

musttidyupmusttidyup · 20/09/2012 22:33

Or me ^^

Calico1 · 20/09/2012 23:52

I only saw a few of those books too! I think there was a separate alternative clun operating at the same time and all our books have ended up there. I also enjoyed reading Kindred (I had forgotten what it was called) but didn't get any of Dinky's books, Mr Pip or the Tome (phew)!

dinkystinky · 21/09/2012 09:27

Piebald as my Soulless book at the moment - if anyone wants it after she's read it/binned reading it drop her a PM as I'm happy for it to go to a new home. Its the one that Kiwi loved so much she bought the rest of the series - and the one Tilly hated!
